Songwriting is a form of art in itself. It is a way that you can express yourself and your feelings. The most amazing part of songwriting is that it can be taken in so many different ways. When I write songs generally I find myself writing about personal experience and things I have gone through in my life, however someone else may hear a song and take it and make it fit a personal experience they have had. And that is the beauty of songs, it is left open to personal interpretation. If I am able to write a song that can help someone through a tough time, or give someone a song about falling in love, or about growing up and becoming the person you want to be then I feel, as a writer I have achieved more then I could possibly imagine.

I know personally the most inspiring part of music was being able to grow up

with songs that got me through tough times. It was not until my feshman year of college that I truely considered sitting down and writing my own music. It all began when I had gone to watch a close friend of mine, Lindsey Mae, perform at a local coffee shop called Coffee Planet. I sat in the back of the shop as she practiced the songs she would be playing that night. I have been singing as long as I could speak and always wished I had the courage to get up and perform in front of people. So I told her how proud I was that she could get up and do it. She asked me if I knew one of the songs she was playing and it turns out I did. That night with no rehearsal she asked me if i would come up and sing with her. The butterflies and nerves were uncontrollable but with the encouraging words of Lindsey we got up there and it was great! From that night on I knew there is no greater feeling then performing for people.

About a week after that open mic I grabbed an old journal and began writing my very first lyrics. At this point I was unable to play guitar. So Lindsey and I one night sat down and began putting music to some of my lyrics. From there we decided to make a music page and continue co-writing songs under the name of "Elai". People took really well to the music we began writing, and it took off from there. We began performing at local coffee shops and sold over 100 CD's.

Finally I was determined and picked up my dads old guitar and began teaching myself. I would stop at nothing and managed to learn the basics. Instantly i began writing my first songs. Lindsey and I although still friends decided to go our own ways as far as music was concerned. Which is how it all began. After writing my first 30 songs I was booking shows and playing local open mics. I knew there is nothing I wanted more then to excel in music and better my writing.

To this day I feel I am still a work in progress. I continue writing and playing out in hopes that my songs can somehow and in someway reach my audience. It is a journey that I hope will take me far one day. I thank each and every person that has followed me on this journey and cannot wait to see where life takes me.
