Born and raised in Lincoln Park Michigan, an industrial suburb just south of Detroit and home of The MC5, Huck Johns was raised on Rock & Roll. Seger, Nugent, Cooper to name a few. Early in Huck's career as a vocalist and song writer Huck shared a stage with the best of Detroit's accomplished and most professional musicians. After a good run in his first band "Broken Toys" and an early education
in Classic Rock and Blues provided by the band , local friends and legendary Detroit drummer Johnny "Bee" Badanjek (Mitch Ryder and the Wheels, The Rockets, Edger Winter, Alice Cooper, Nils Lofgren) Huck collaborated and recorded with Kenny Olson, (the killer guitarist that recorded and toured the best days of Kidrock and played lead guitar on such smash hits as "Only God knows why" and "Cowboy") Kenny opened doors for Huck to spread out and meet a wider group of touring musicians from New York to Los Angeles. One night in 2000 at Alto Reed's (sax for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band) grand estate in Grosse Pointe Michigan he was introduced to a group called BuckCherry. After a jam session that evening with JB, Yogi & Devon Glenn from the band he was convinced by them that Los Angeles was the destination. After his relocation in 2001, Huck got a call from Slash interested in a demo song of Huck that was passed on to him and requested him to try out for a project he was putting together which resulted in Velvet Revolver. Although deciding he wasn't the fit after receiving such an Honorius call Huck focused even more on his writing and proceeded to collaborate with guitarists , producers and writers within L.A. In 2004 Huck landed a song co-write on Kid Rock's self titled cd "Kidrock" called "I AM". This critically acclaimed song he co wrote assured Huck he was on the right track. During this period Huck and J.B., tried many versions of a project, but nothing seemed to gel . In early 2006 Huck had cataloged an extensive song list sharing co writes with a list of notable writers, including some Grammy Nominated and Platinum selling. After sending his efforts back to Detroit to an Old Friend, in 2005 he was picked up by Bob Seger's long time manager Punch Andrews and added to the short roster of Artists on Hideout records (Bob Seger). Recording at Capital records Studios in Hollywood and releasing his self titled debut CD "HUCK" on Hideout/Capitol in 2006, Huck toured for 2 years playing for thousands of people all over the USA splitting bills with such artists as Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, and The current resurge success Buckcherry. Charting 36 on Billboard and receiving Billboard's critics choice award as one of the top rock artist of 2006. After returning to Los Angeles in 2008 to record "HUCK II" The music Industry was in turmoil and Huck parted ways with his long time manager and Label, leaving Huck open, seeking new projects. 2009 Former Buckcherry bassist J.B gave him a call and again sparked the idea of creating a record. It felt like the right time. After a discussion with producer Dave Cobb (Shooter Jennings, Michael Johns, Chris Cornell, Jamie Johnson) The vision began unfolding and they began to pull in a slew of great musicians starting with Yogi Lonach and Devon Glenn of the original "Litup" fame of Buckchery in 2000. Legendary players such as Fred Mandel (Queen, Elton John) and Greg Gordon (JET) working the console the sound of Black Robot began to take shape. With the completion of the BLACK ROBOT 13 song ALBUM with various session players, the CD was released in 2010. The record was picked in Itunes Top Ten of 2010 in the "best of" and also featured #5 song of 2010 "Baddass" in Classic Rock Magazine. Since the record was created with session musicians and friends who had working careers a band was needed to support the CD, after Huck's chosen lineup Daxx Neilson (Cheap Trick ) and Eli Wolfmeir (Wild Feathers) played a few shows to help out then moved on, others were brought in to cover and the touring band was selected. The toured a short run throughout Texas and received someradio play throughout the U.S.
Currently Huck is working on various projects and is with a ton of up and coming and well known players and writers. He is writing songs for film and television and working on another solo release set for 2012.
