b l a n k - bigger than you thought!

The Frankfurt based band blank is the consequential continuity of the creative efforts of bandleader Robert Carl Blank (Vocals & Guitars). Melancholic-optimistic rock songs full of energy, poetry and soul – sung with the intriguing and tender voice of Robert Carl Blank and played with a lust for life and a wink of the eye by a superb 4-piece band. Robert’s relaxed and very poetic song writing approach reminds one of a wide-angled camera gently moving its lens across the horizon. Every song contains its own life, full of image/dream facets. The narrative is non-imposing but electrifying and suspense-packed. The cuts are soft, but then again also sudden and unexpected. Sensitive, melodically, asking questions and with total lack of posing blank plays with a transparent rock sound and a groove that goes to both your heart and feet.



So why the band? Robert had spent several years as a typical singer/songwriter with as diverse musical stopovers as there probably are, including many travelling years abroad. When he got back to Germany in 2003 after having spent one and a half years in Australia, he had a bag full of songs and an appetite for a band. blank finally found its launch in September 2004 when Robert recruited long-time colleague Volker Schmidt (Drums) for a duo gig. A few initial problems and a few member changes kept the project almost on complete halt for a while, but the band got finally completed when Christian Blaser (E-Guitar) and Dennis Bergmann (Bass) were added to the band. Slowly but steadily Robert’s musical road movies got turned into ambitious rock songs in wide screen format. The band immediately recorded some of these songs for its debut demo EP “Things We Do” (06/2005), followed by the release of their second EP “mad weather” (03/2006). blank recorded its third EP “inches & miles” in January 2007, which is due to be released in July.



Though only playing together in this final line up since May 2005, blank already managed to show some success: the band reached the Hessen finals of the Emergenza Band Competition and promptly won the jury prize. Later that same year the band went to Berlin to play the German finals of the Emergenza Acoustic Competition. In July 2006 blank came in second at the prestigious Ten-Sero Band competition in Freiburg. blank now plays regular shows throughout the Rhine-Main-Neckar area and has built a reputation for its authentic and energetic show. The band has completed its second tour through Scandinavia this year and is currently seeking cooperation partners in the music industry.
