Higgs Boson is an English keyboard player/composer who specialises in an exhilarating and unique form of jazz/world fusion that marries music, art and science in harmony.
Higgs' music, inspired by the edges of science, where the imagination starts to take over; the source being an imaginary sub-atomic particle (aka the 'God Particle') associated with the beginning of time! Higgs Boson draws inspiration from the elusive particle of the same name.
Higgs was born in Bideford, N. Devon, England. He started playing the piano at the age of 8 and studied the instrument classically while still at school. At the age of 14 he became a rock drummer, playing mainly original material in local bands. The most notable of these was Helter Skelter, a band managed by Will Palin, sound engineer to David Bowie and subsequent tour manager to Chris de Burgh. In 1992 Higgs was signed to Elysium Records on the strength of an album entitled 'Leaving' that was to be produced by Elton John's producer Gus Dudgeon ('Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' 'Captain Fantastic'etc.) also XTC and Eric Clapton.
The first Higgs Boson CD album has been released to widespread acclaim in the British Music press.
Jazz Journal International, Keyboard Review, Rhythm Magazine, Guitar Techniques and The Mix are among publications giving Higgs' music great reviews, praising both the composition and execution of his first album.
The CD has also featured on Humphrey Lyttleton's 'Best of Jazz on Record' show on BBC Radio 2 and has also been extensively played on network Radio and Television throughout the UK.
Higgs put together a group of exceptional musicians for this album and is the first jazz project totally controlled by Higgs from composition through to final production, helped by Gareth Young, an internationally acclaimed pop producer and Jo Partridge guitarist on Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. The album comprises nine original compositions that are strikingly fresh and inventive, showcasing Higgs' diverse jazz, rock and classical influences.
