Write-up of Hiatus Road in the Sun-Sentinel newspaper

(April 23, 2009)

Ah, summer vacation. Time to kick back and take a hiatus. Unless you're the guys from Hiatus Road.

Plucked off MySpace.com by a major producer and flown cross-country to lay down tracks, the Fort Lauderdale hard rock trio hit a California recording studio in August during a break from their day jobs.

Frontman Christian Ibarra, drummer Rob Sanchez and bassist Jason Neitz spent three weeks crafting their self-titled debut disc at RadioStar Studios in the town of Weed.

The guys were issued the invite by studio co-owner Sylvia Massy, an engineer/producer whose credits include Tool, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith and Tom Petty.

A drop party is planned for May to coincide with the release of their seven-track EP. The album stays true to the straight-from-the-gut sound the group's been honing for the past two years. If all goes as planned, the EP could put the band on the big music map, Ibarra said.

"A lot of people are trying to get out there and conquer the world with their songs," said Ibarra, who supplies lead vocals and guitar. "But the three of us are at peace with the way things are. We put a lot of honesty into our lyrics, and the fact that a high-profile producer notices us has to mean something."

HIATUS ROAD BIO

Ask any true gut-level artist if they could stop painting and they would tell you that the pictures they paint never started on the canvas. You can take away the brushes but when the art comes from inside, the visions in their head never end.

That’s the dilemma Hiatus Road front man, Christian, faced when his former band, unable to persevere thru adversity, went on hiatus … permanently. That end left Christian wondering if he had it in him to start from scratch and begin the journey all over again. Like the artist who paints because he has to, the lyrics and the melodies kept coming and he eventually stopped fighting his own nature and quietly began writing again. What originally began as a creative outlet, soon took on a life of its own and after recording a few well received demos, it was clear that Hiatus Road was deemed to have a full sound. Both Rob and Jason had been in several bands before finding their place with Hiatus Road.

This is a band born out of a simple desire to make good music with meaningful lyrics and a shared belief that real success can never be measured on billboard charts or bank accounts.

For HIATUS ROAD, being successful has more to do with how you see yourself at the end of the day and the effect you have on the people around you.

By refusing to play follow the leader just to become the next top 40 copy cat band, HIATUS ROAD has remained true to the music they love. The result is a sound that is distinctively their own and lyrics that remind us that real music can only come from real life.

In August of 2008, HIATUS ROAD set out on a cross-country journey from sunny South Florida to Northern California to record their first official debut EP with legendary producer Sylvia Massy, who's collaborated and worked with numerous bands/artists such as Tool, System of a Down, Deftones, Powerman 5000, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, REM, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, etc. The record was tracked at Radio Star Studios in Weed, California. The release date for the EP is set for June of 2009.
