Biography

We're nice people, but shit, it's about time we got some respect.

In the course of this band, we've been held at gunpoint, lost a drummer to a stroke hours before our first show and frequently survive days at work on minutes of sleep after gigs in some of the shittiest parts of the country. Dues have been paid.

We buck the trend and now’s the time for people to listen. We're not afraid to play our instruments properly, we're not afraid to have solos and we're not scared of rock. It's not prog, shoegaze or some conceptual bollocks from a bunch of art college students from Brighton, just because some songs have (tasteful) solos.

These are songs you'll remember, songs with enough depth that you’ll discover something else to love with every listen. Passion and meaning without pomposity. Stadium filling sounds to transport you.

It's time to end the hegemony of the bland and the talentless, the factory-farmed supermarket unit shifters and the tuneless over-hyped next-big-things. Let the sound of Heroes of Switzerland into your heart. You won’t look back.

Comfort In Fear is the debut album from Nottingham’s Heroes of Switzerland, covering a musical landscape from the driving woozy drones of My Bloody Valentine to the (guilty) pleasures of classic rock. On the way it takes in the basslines of Peter Hook & John Entwistle, the drums of Lars Ulrich & Dave Grohl, the guitar hooks of Alex Lifeson & Andy Summers and the vocals of Ian Curtis & Mark Gardener. Lyrical themes of pain, loss and fear collide with hope, beauty and post-Cold War paranoia.

Reference points include the obvious, such as Swervedriver,Ride and local contemporaries Amusement Parks on Fire, along with the more diverse: Rush, Metallica, the Stone Roses, the Verve. Hell, you might even find a lil’ bit of Whitesnake in there.

Heroes of Switzerland don't care about cool, they just want the good stuff. Acolytes of Doherty would probably break their own fingers trying to keep up.

From supporting Lift to Experience legend Josh T Pearson for Club AC30, Norwegian psych stars the Lionheart Brothers and local legends Six By Seven to gigs for Drowned in Sound and Goonite, HoS have been found rupturing the foundations of venues around the UK. Their debut EP, Disposable Fiction, has become a staple of Shoegaze Radio.

After releasing their debut EP Disposable Fiction, the Heroes completed their debut album Comfort in Fear, in March 2008 and have a track on the compilation Psychedelica Volume 2 for Northern Star Records. If you like the songs in the player above you can order Comfort in Fear here. If you're in the US, you may prefer to order from Tonevendor. The Disposable Fiction EP is still available here.

And hey, if you really like us, you can buy a Heroes t-shirt! (Currently only Large available)
