Inspired hugely by the Bay Area thrash movement of the 1980s and early 1990s and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Chris Anderson and Joe Cearlock formed Helacon with the intent of bringing the same style of music back to an era in which such music isn't appreciated as much. Formed in the Midwestern United States, in Central Illinois to be exact, where metal of any kind is sparse, they wrote a handful of originals in 2005 and covered music written by Black Sabbath, Iced Earth, Judas Priest, and so forth, and hired Eric Chrostoski and Joey Marino to fill the bass and second guitar duties, while Chris handled lead guitar and vocals, and Joe performed on the percussive end. After a short amount of time, Eric Chrostoski and Joey Marino were replaced by Matt "Frog" Pruesser and Shane Lehman and this lineup lasted for the remainder of 2006 and the beginning of 2007.However, in 2007, a fallout happened with Shane Lehman and he was replaced by Nathan Kernan. This lineup remained very solid for 2007 and the first quarter of 2008. This lineup wrote many originals and recorded 7 in Springfield, MO under the production guidance of Greg Ponder (Public Assassin, Monument of Bones, Oceans of Ash) at the Funeral Home.Soon after recording our music, Frog had a fallout and wasn't appearing at shows anymore; soon after Joey Saturn was asked to fill his shoes. With him, he brought Andrew Ortega to do vocal duties with Chris. This lineup was extremely short-lived, and soon after both were asked to leave and Nathan soon quit on his own. After several stagnant months, Nathan, Chris, and Joe decided it was best to continue playing on as a 3 piece until a bass player who was suitable to Helacon's needs came along. Helacon never found a permanent bass player to fill Frog's shoes and after a while, Helacon's progress as a band halted as it's members moved on to do different things.Frog is currently engaged and living in Belleville, IL. Nathan is married and living in Lenzburg, IL. Joe is engaged and living in Kincaid, IL attending Lincoln Land College for history and currently playing drums in St. Louis, MO based band Lovely Destruction with Andrew Ortega and Joey Saturn. Chris is living in Tilden, IL attending Southwestern Illinois College for music technology and formed a new a band called Cynosis.At this current time, there are no events or anything else planned. Helacon is currently on hiatus and its future is uncertain due to the conflict of schedule in everyone's lives.
