KISS 1974! This album cover started my journey to be a rockstar!

The brainchild of London Mace, Heavy Honey’s unique sound provides the stale, moth ball-ridden closet that is the Las Vegas music scene with a much needed breath of fresh air. With band members with backgrounds ranging from hip hop to musical theatre, it’s easy to understand the discrete identity that Heavy Honey is creating for themselves. Mace, the band’s founder, lead singer, and songwriter, started Heavy Honey in earnest in November ’07. Mace, having just produced and recorded their debut album, God Bless the Fearless Lover, was eager to start playing live because “Soul Selling”, the single off “Fearless Lover” was already gaining a following in Denmark.

Mace recruited Reagan Pfifer “Hollywood No” on female vocals for her powerful voice that Mace commented on by saying, “She sings like me only better, and she’s a lot nicer to look at”. Next came Trey Winrow “New York Gun” on drums. Mace can often be heard saying that he gets mezmerised on stage by Winrow‘s heavy handed “Bonham-esque” playing style and has to catch himself from just watching him play. Like all bands starting out, Heavy Honey had their fair share of players that came and went, but that didn’t stop the 2H. The band continued to play all around Las Vegas, playing such venues as the House of Blues, the Rox Club, Puff, the Freaking Frog, the Cheyenne Saloon, and many more. Later, acquiring bassist Natalie Dunn “Tokyo Fire”, of such bands as Chosen, Begotten, and Barbie Gone Bad. Mace jokingly told Dunn, quoting his favorite line from the film Starship Troopers, “You’re it until you’re dead, or until I find someone better” knowing he won’t find a bassist with more talent anytime soon. With frequent guest appearances by Rich Burnett “The Bearded Lady” and Mike Johns “Mikey Miles”, of 13 Miles as well as founding members of Hemlock and good friends to Mace and the band, the Heavy Honey line up was complete.

With 2008 under their belt, Heavy Honey can also add to their accolades an appearance on Matt McClure Live, an indie L.A. internet show, being featured in Vegas Rocks! Magazine, winning Fusion Productions and the Beauty Bar’s Battle of The Bands, and most recently opening for rap legend, Ice T and the Addicts. Heavy Honey has played 95 gigs since their first on January 10, 2008, an average of one show every five days.

2008 also yielded the release of Heavy Honey’s second album, Maiden America, whose seventh track “The Ring” is already being played intentionally in heavy (no pun intended) rotation across French, German, and Belgian radio. Heavy Honey, intending to capitalize on the attention, hopes to plan an international tour summer of 2009. With Mace’s meaningful lyrics and melodies combined with Pfifer’s raw vocals and backed up with Dunn’s metronomic accuracy and Winrow’s gravity-moving beats, Heavy Honey is a name that those looking for rising stars would do well to remember. Those wishing to become familiar with Heavy Honey should check out tracks “Soul Selling” off “Fearless Lover” and “Angels & Camaros” off of “Maiden America”. Heavy Honey is opening the door for a new era in music for the Vegas scene and beyond.
