In May 1998, Geri Halliwell made a dramatic exit from the Spice Girls and launched a solo music career. Her critically acclaimed debut album, Schizophonic, was a massive success and produced the Number One hits Mi Chico Latino, Lift Me Up and Bag It Up, and a Top Five hit with Look At Me. She brought the 2000 Brit Awards to a standstill with her characteristically flamboyant performance of Bag It Up.

Geri then had huge success with a cover of the Weather Girls classic It's Raining Men, recorded for the soundtrack to the film Bridget Jones's Diary. The track went Number One for two weeks and garnered attention all over the globe. She went on to release two more albums, 2001's Scream If You Wanna Go Faster and 2005's Passion, both of which produced a number of Top Ten hits.

Geri has also released two best selling autobiographies, 1999's If Only and the 2001 follow-up Just For The Record. She has also released two yoga videos that have outsold Jane Fonda's blockbuster workout video.

Geri appeared in a season six episode of the smash TV series Sex And The City and played a talent agent in the comedy film Fat Slags, based on the cartoon Viz. She was a judge on the talent program Popstars: The Rivals, which formed Girls Aloud, the UK's biggest girl band since the Spice Girls. She then coached contestants on the American talent series All American Girl in 2003, alongside John Salley and Suzanne de Passe.

In May 2006, she became a mother to her daughter Bluebell Madonna. Explaining her name choice, she said, "What really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare – so it's a precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter."

In the winter of 2007 and 2008, Geri joined the Spice Girls on a whirlwind tour through Europe and North America. It marked the first time that all five Spice Girls had been on stage together since May 1998, nearly ten years prior. Their Greatest Hits album and "comeback" single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) were well received from both fans and critics alike.

Geri is currently a UN Goodwill Ambassador, promoting maternal health care for women. She is also a patron for Breast Cancer Cares and Ambassador for The Prince's Trust. In 2008, Geri also pledged her support to the Kentish Times Christmas Toy Appeal, which aims to collect second hand toys as Christmas presents for patients in Child Wards in Bromley, Bexley, Woolwich and Dartford, UK.

A series of children's books written by Geri were released throughout 2008 in the UK. The books follow the adventures of nine-year-old Ugenia Lavender, a character based upon Geri as a child, alongside her friends Bronte, Rudy and Trevor.

2009 sees a very busy year for Geri as her Ugenia Lavender series is soon to be released in paperback. She has also been learning to play piano and has begun writing some new material.
