WHIP GYMNASTIX EP
Jump ropes, mozzarella dreams, big ice cream cones, sticky fingers, dirty lips, sweat, temptation, and a handful of self-determination. These are the sounds and feels of the Whip Gymnastics EP, the funky new 12" vinyl from Guillamino, Barcelona’s most innovative and eclectic artist.
Whip Gymastics EP is an ode to vigorexia and calories, a meditation on flat tummies and sweat shirts. It’s the shout calling us to crunch our abs and the guttural ahhhh! of a tennis player in mid swing.
Bass is the main ingredient in Guillamino’s recipes, and he serves gigantic slices of cheesed-out bass on the title track Whip Gymnastix. The track is an inferno of gothic garage keys and bouncy dirty south beats chased down by a slow jazz melody that…BUUURP!.goes down smooth.
Left in the Wild is iced cold pop from 1989, suddenly awoken by of a coffee overdose. The bass is scratchy yet glazed smooth like a cinnamon roll.
Son of a Beach harkens back to Guillamino's hip hop roots. Back in the day, Guillamino was a punk rocker and a Ramones fan until some son of a b…. said that he couldn’t rock. So, Guillamino discovered beats, and now he serves us bubble gum bass and tasty 90s lyrics that stick to our soles.
Guillamino saves a stew of dubstep for the last track, Cricket Bug. The bass is busted, and now its time to chill. Funk Brownies call to us with sensual siren voices and draw us to the fridge to grab another bite.
WHO IS GUILLAMINO?
Guillamino dazzled the crowd with his band at Sonar2009’s Red Bull Music Academy SonarDome, and he’s ready to bring down the house again.
In 2010, he performed at several Sonar events, including SonarKids, where he debuted a new set especially designed for children. At SonarKids, Guillamino directed a live electronic jam session called "0 > 100" together with three other electronic artists from Barcelona. He topped all that off with a performance with Tristan Perich at SonarNights in Girona and Reus.
Before all that, Guillamino:
Participated in RBMA 2008
Toured France, Chile, USA, the Netherlands and London and made stops in SXSW'09, TodaysArt Festival, Excuse my French, Rough Trade Shop, Lock Tavern in Camden, SeOne Club and Electroacoustic Club.
Performed live with the Reactable instrument featured in SonarNights at Frankfurts' Annual BookFair 2007.
Released a compilation of his own through Third-Ear Records in Japan and performed at SonarSound Tokyo 2006.
Joined the roster of Detroit’s Alter Ego Management

Gimnàstica a cops de fuet, somnis de mozzarella i gelats enormes, notes enganxifoses, morros bruts, suor, temptacions diverses i molta determinació. La rectitud del fuet fa tremolar el nou 12” de Guillamino, remullat de funk, wonky i dubstep.
Una oda a la vigorexia i a les calories. Un cant a les samarretes suades i les panxes planes, un crit exortant a trencar-nos a cop d'abdominals o un crit d'extenuació com el de les tenistes en l'enèsim punt de break.
Aquests 4 nous temes marquen la nova mutació de l’inquiet Guillamino, un dels artistes més inclassificables i amb projecció internacional que ha donat l’escena barcelonina.
Gimàstica a cops de fuet
El B.A.I.X. es l'element principal d'aquest EP, arrambat a la bass music més gruixuda. Guillamino ens entrega rodanxes enormes de mozzarella bass al tema central, “Whip Gymnastix”, mentre un crit marcial ens empeny endavant en un creuament de teclats gòtics i garatgers, amb ritmes bounce propis del dirty south americà i una melodia esmolada i triomfal.
“Left in the wild”, és pop gelat del 89 però despertat de nou amb 3 cafeteres de més. El baix aquí rasca i està cobert de sucre glacé. Un popeye de limón!
“Son of a beach” és un remember when dels old days d'en Guillamino, quan va començar amb això del hip hop fent graffitis però escoltant Ramones. Algun fill de platja deia que això no molava, aleshores. El baix és fet de chiclet boomer i petazetas.
A la cassola dubstep de “Cricket Bug” se'ns cola un grill sorollós, fent amistat amb un baix trencat però llaaaarg com un dia sense funk. Frozen funk amb veus sensuals que ens tempten perquè tornem a fotre-li mà a la nevera.
El nou EP de Guillamino es pot trobar en vinil 12” i en descàrrega digital a iTunes, on també inclou les bases instrumentals de “Son of a beach” i “Left in the wild”.

“Guillamino es realmente álguien a vigilar”, escribió Gilles Peterson a raíz del lanzamiento japonés de este músico de Barcelona. “Lo tiene todo: soul, beats, voz, ideas.”
Gimnasia, alatigazos, sueños de mozzarella y helados enormes, notas pegajosas, morritos sucios, sudor, tentaciones varias, y mucha determinación. La rectitud del látigo hace temblar el nuevo 12 ” de Guillamino, remojado con funk, wonky y dubstep.
