BIOGRAPHY
They could have named their Band Le Radeau de la Méduse (the raft of the Medusa) but they eventually gave preference to Gréements de fortune (gréements = rigs), herein after called “Greements Of Fortune”. In the nautical vocabulary rigs indicate all the cordage, pulleys and other structures helping in the good functioning of the sails of a boat. The name was to bring this « boat » luck which has committed itself to a multidirectional groove where funk, rock, Minneapolis Sound and afrobeat mix without getting in each others way. Bibi Tanga (bass/voc), Rico Adiko Kerridge (guitar/voc), Jay Murphy (piano/voc), Gil C. Freak (trumpet/choir), Eric "Shraah" Rohner (saxophone/voc) and Fabrice Lerigab (drums/choir) have been marking France’s music scene since the Band’s creation in 2004.
With irrepressible energy, a keen sense of the scene and rare elegance they have been successful in setting new benchmarks and enthusing their audience. In the summer of 2008, the six musicians brought the “New Morning” in Paris to a boil, and worked together with Lady Miss Kier (Deee Lite) & Gary «Mudbone» Cooper (Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Dave Stewart, Jimmy Cliff) on the occasion of Europride in Stockholm. As a result of their superb performance Greements Of Fortune were soon after given the opportunity to be the support act of George Clinton and P-Funk All Stars at the Bataclan in Paris.
The Band’s live and studio experiences constitute the foundation of their first album music released in the spring of 2008. Bibi Tanga’s lyrics in English, French and even Sango (Bibi hails from the Central African Republic), are at times funny, at times earthy, but always full of wit; they could even bring Molière’s language to groove.
According to the Greements Of Fortune, their music is influenced time and again by such celebrities as Hendrix, Zappa, Coltrane, Koffi Olomidé, Fela and Fishbone. Thanks to these references and their experience the six have been pepping up the music scene tremendously even across national boundaries. Thierry Ardisson discovered the Band in September 2007 and ever since Greements Of Fortune have been in charge of the music in his tv talk-show Salut les terriens. So Bibi, Rico, Jay, Eric, Gil and Fabrice will be on Canal Plus every Saturday night for the 3rd consecutive year.

Ceux qui auraient pu s’appeler Le Radeau de la Méduse ont préféré choisir le nom des Gréements de Fortune pour mener à bien la barque d’un groove multidirectionnel où funk, afrobeat, rock frontal et rafales de Minneapolis Sound se côtoient sans se bousculer. Bibi Tanga (basse/chant), Rico Adiko Kerridge (guitare/chant), Jay Murphy (claviers/chant), Gil C. Freak (trompette/choeurs), Eric "Shraah" Rohner (saxophone/chant) et Fabrice Lerigab (batterie/choeurs) écument les scènes de l’hexagone depuis 2004, année de création du groupe.
Pourvoyeurs d’une irrépressible énergie live, d’un sens indéniable de la scène et d’une élégance rare, les Gréements savent comment tenir la mesure et le public!
Eté 2008, le sextette parisien met le New Morning à genoux et collabore avec Lady Miss Kier (Deee Lite) & Gary «Mudbone» Cooper (Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Dave Stewart, Jimmy Cliff) à l'occasion de l’Europride à Stockholm, Suède. Ils n’ont pas à rougir de leur performance face à ceux qu’ils écoutent et admirent depuis toujours. A tel point, qu’à leur retour à Paris, on leur demande d’assurer la première partie de George Clinton & P-Funk All Stars au Bataclan de Paris.
L’expérience des planches et du studio constitue le fondement de Music, le premier album des Gréements de Fortune paru au printemps 2008. Les textes de Bibi Tanga en anglais, français et même en sango (langue centre africaine, pays d’origine de Bibi), sont tantôt drôles, tantôt crus mais toujours fins. Ils alimentent un album transgenre capable de faire groover la langue de Molière.
Les Gréements de Fortune, citent aussi bien Hendrix, Zappa, Coltrane que Koffi Olomidé, Fela et les Fishbone dans ce qui a été leur trafic d’influences. Riches de ces références et de leur expérience, ils donnent un nouvel élan à la scène musicale, pour lui donner une dimension bien au delà du cadre hexagonal. Thierry Ardisson dans son talk-show télévisé Salut les terriens ! ne veut plus qu’eux pour son animation musicale depuis qu’il les a découvert en septembre 2007. Bibi, Rico, Jay, Eric, Gil et Fabrice sont donc pour la 3ème année consécutive, tous les samedi soir sur Canal Plus.
