Founded in 1986, the Great Northern Union (GNU) is a 70 member men's a cappella chorus based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Known for its precision harmony and high energy, the GNU has won awards both regionally and nationally. The GNU is a member of both the Barbershop Harmony Society BHS) and Contemporary A Cappella Society of America (CASA).
Additionally, the 2006 Contemporary A cappella Recording Awards (CARA) nominations were announced, and the Great Northern Union received two. Bound for Glory, our 2005 CD release, garnered a CARA nomination in the Religious Album category. A song on the same album, If Ye Love Me, also received a nomination for Religious Song (see sample on myspace music player). 2007 marks our newest CD release entitled It's A Grand Night For Singing, which has proven to be a top seller in it’s short release
2008 marks the 22nd anniversary of the Great Northern Union and our best concert series yet. With featured groups including the Luther College Norsemen, St. Olaf Viking Chorus, Men In Black, Marcoux Corner, Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir with Robert Robinson and the Hot Air Buffoons, there is no better place to go for great a cappella singing.
