What happened to Gorerotted?

To cut a very long story short(ish) Gorerotted was reinvented as The Rotted in February 2008. The reason for this was that when writing for what was to be album number 4, we were throwing a lot of new ideas into the mix and getting really excited about what we were coming up with. It was sounding really fresh and exploring new realms, which was giving us a new sense of enthusiasm for what we were doing. Prior to this, our passion for Gorerotted had been waning for some time, as we felt incredibly limited artistically, but the new material was giving us back that buzz we once had. Ben (Vocals), Tim (Guitars) and Wilson (Bass) were still present in the line-up, but we had a new 2nd guitarist and a new drummer. We'd all progressed as musicians (as you'd hope after more than 10 years!) and we weren't about to put any constraints on the lyrical themes or musical influences, so we just went for it and let the music write itself. We achieved considerably more than we'd ever expected to with Gorerotted, and are all incredibly proud of the 3 records Gorerotted put out, but it was apparent that we should just move on. So, rather than release the album as Gorerotted, we decided to make a clean break and became The Rotted (a name we'd affectionately been known as by friends and fans for some time anyway). This was a huge change to make, but one we decided upon almost immediately. It was the truest action to take, we knew some people would turn their backs on us, but it didn't matter. We had to do what was right for us, the fans of the Gorerotted style, and the band in general. I hope you can all understand this.

Will Gorerotted ever play again?

Never say never, but at this moment in time, and for the foreseeable future, no we won't. We've all moved on to new places and are very busy and very happy with what we're doing in our new projects (The Rotted, Traces and Agonyst, check 'em out). There doesn't seem to be any reason for it, and if we were to do it, there would have to be a reason, we're not going to just reform for the hell of it. Apart from anything else, when you think of the number of bands that completely changed the face of music, dispensing with the rule book and creating something genuinely fresh and exciting that should reform, a Gorerotted reformation just pales in significance.

A Bit Of History

Taken from Wikipedia:

"Gorerotted was a British death metal band formed in 1997 which split up in January 2008 and reformed with new members as The Rotted. Gorerotted's lyrics and song titles were largely inspired by horror films, and dealt with subjects such as death, mutilation, necrophilia, and later alcohol and drug abuse. The band's song titles often incorporated humorous rhymes or puns such as "Cut, Gut, Beaten, Eaten", "Masticated by the Spasticated", and "Only Tools and Corpses", a pun on the popular British sitcom, Only Fools and Horses, the latter beginning with a suspiciously similar introductory drumbeat to the sitcom's theme music."

Taken from Last.FM:

"An infamous London-based Death Metal act, they split up in 2008 and members can be found performing in various bands (The Rotted, Traces, Agonyst).

Signing to the Metal Blade label Gorerotted conjured up a sophomore album ‘Only Tools and Corpses’ for October 2003 release. The band would hit the road in Europe the following month, supporting Pungent Stench. Back out on tour in April of 2004 the band partnered with Sanatorium, Amputated and Mexican act Disgorge for a short burst of UK dates. This activity would be backed up by the filming of an extreme, zombie orientated, promotional video for the ‘Only Tools and Corpses’ album’s title track directed by Adam Powell.

Gorerotted announced they had lost the services of second vocalist Mr. Gore in August. Touring across Europe was maintained, the group hooking up with Vomitory for gigs in, including the German festivals ‘PartySan Open Air’ and ‘Summer Breeze’, and with Inhume during December.

Gorerotted entered Aexxys-Art Studio in Munich, Germany with their then live sound engineer and Stefan Fimmers of Necrophagist during February 2005 to begin recording third album ‘A New Dawn For The Dead’. September European dates had Gorerotted partnered with Poland’s Decapitated and Dutch Deathsters Detonation. "

Other notable facts include:

Over the years, Gorerotted played and toured the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the USA. The band was used in an advert for The Sun (The UK's most infamous gutter-press tabloid). Gorerotted's music featured in 2 films, 'The Incredibly Strange People Show' (weird indie film where 2 guys channel surf and see a variety of weird and wonderful TV shows) and Porn of The Dead (Rob Rotten's zombie-porn masterpiece). The band played their only US show in May 2007 at the Maryland Deathfest. This was guitarist Matt "Robin Pants" Hoban's last show. Several pressing plants have refused to manufacture Gorerotted's CDs, mainly due to the artwork. The band's last ever tour was with old friends Pungent Stench, who coincidentally also called it a day after this tour. 'Mutliated In Minutes' was voted one of the greatest Gore Metal albums of all time in leading Extreme Metal magazine Terrorizer's gore issue
