G MONEY

G Money was one of the veterans of the UK pirate radio scene.

Born in Harlesden, North West London, G was shipped out to Jamaica to "study his books!"



While in Jamaica, his love of radio was born, through listening to people like Barry G and the late Free I, both giants of the Jamaican radio scene.



G's first ever radio show was in 1987 on the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, where we won a competition to host a radio show.



On his return to the UK, G set up Bassline FM in 1993 as a result of being unable to get a spot on the established pirates of the day.



Bassline changed the face of pirate radio in London, because for once the people behind a station were in their teens and therefore the station had a young fresh sound.



His show The Bassment was a legendary fixture on the station.



Bassline went on to become one of the major players on the pirate scene in the UK.



Originally a "Dancehall" DJ, G now specializes in playing hip hop and RnB and has rocked parties for Lauryn Hill, Wyclef, Ja Rule and many others.



His DJ'ing exploits have taken him up and down the country, A competent all rounder G Has rocked clubs in Greece, Dubai, Sweden, Bulgaria, Cyprus, America, Portugal, Jamaica and America



As a broadcaster, G Money has represented 1Xtra all around the world, broadcasting from all the major UK Carnivals, taking the station to the Trinidad Carnival and reporting from the Red Carpet at the BET Awards in Atlanta. As a journalist he has covered the European Championships and the World Cup in Germany.



"Look out for the youths today, and they may look after us tomorrow" is G's motto.



He still finds time for voluntary youth programmes in South London such as The Connexions Initiatives where artists such as Usher, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and Tyrese visit schools and encourage kids to stay focussed and achieve their goals.



G set up a marketing solutions company in 2002 called Angles Marketing, and Mastermind video productions was setup in 2003.



Both businesses are based in South London and have G working with a wealth of hot UK artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Blak Twang, Taz and Tubby T.



G Money started his 1Xtra Saturday slot when the station launched in 2002.



In August 2004, G Money jumped to weekday afternoons which see him co-hosting a fast-paced music show full of humour and gossip with Nesha.



"If you think once a week was crazy, five days a week is more than you can stand!," says the man.



"1Xtra has given me the opportunity to inflict my craziness on the nation!"



A shift in career saw him moving toward more journalistic endeavours when he joined the crew of TXU - a magazine programme which he hosts daily on 1Xtra. A regular contributor to 5 Live, his well recieved reports for the Sony Award Winning Today Programme on Radio 4 provided an incisive perspective on Gun Crime and he is also a presenter with the BBC World Service and occaisionally presents their Global Phone in "World Have Your Say" which broadcasts worldwide to an audience of 30 Million.



Not bad for a man who began his broadcasting career scaling tower blocks and squeezing through lift shafts.



2008 Promises even bigger things for G Money, in October 2007, he began working on a brand new station in Nairobi, Kenya. The launch of HomeBoyz 91.5fm is the most anticipated radio launch ever in Eastern Africa and G Money has been selected to lead from the front, by hosting the Breakfast Show, now Kenyans can experience "G Money in the Morning" From Bassline, to the BBC and now to Africa . The man truly is a "movement by himself"
