Ginger Leigh Biography 2010

Ginger Leigh adds value and delight to every environment she enters. As a global artist featuring a variety of styles from rock to Latin to pop, blues and jazz, Leigh brings a classy modern mix of uniquely high-spirited music and entertainment. Leigh’s drive and ambition go unmatched.

Leigh, the fifth generation of professional musicians, is sometimes blindly considered an emergent Melissa Etheridge, as her on-stage energy is quite similar in strength. However, Ginger Leigh is more of a chanteuse Elvis, appealing to both men and women, young and old. Ginger's strongest message is about living outside of the box. Her uniqueness lies in her ability to see and live beyond the status quo. She manages to deliver this message with contemporary powerful up-beat rhythms and melodies that come from her varied background in jazz, country, and R&B. At age 9, Leigh began winning audiences as the lead-singer in her first professional performing band.

Ginger’s unique style is sultry, sassy, provocative, and full of humor, wit, and wisdom. Leigh’s magnetism draws the audience in with a charismatic embrace. Her highly energetic, visually stunning performances are not confined to one genre. As a seasoned crossover artist, she makes each performance her own, leaving the audience knowing that what they received will never be repeated. Her latest CD, “Better Than Well – Live at the Saxon,” is an on-disc rendering of her live stage show backed by some of Austin’s top-notch musicians. Listen as the audience thrusts energy toward the stage, responding emotionally to her music.

Leigh has self-released 8 CD’s since 1996. She is prolific, driven, and generous. You will often find her assembling other musicians for causes, for her own concert-series “Love. on the Lawn” established in 2003, and for international touring in Italy. For three consecutive years, Leigh has been the official emcee at the Houston Women's Music Festival. Not only is Leigh dedicated to promoting her own musical endeavors, but she is also a published music critic for Central Texas’ N2 Magazine. Ginger appeals to large demographics around the globe and stays in close contact via her CD’s, writings, mailers and blogs. She continues to receive radio play and rave reviews in publications around the world.

While listening to Ginger Leigh's records or while watching her passionate performance on stage, you hardly realize that much of her music is serious. She comes across with a lightness and ease, lifting you, rather than pulling you down. She is in constant celebration of life’s questions and struggles. Her music is empowering. A chameleon in the genre-based world of the music business, Leigh may be seen performing at a country music festival, a folk festival, a rock or jazz club, making her point about living outside the box and without definitions. With piercing clarity, she creates and performs music as seductive and as irresistible as her blue eyes, which enrapture you in song.

From the Austin Chronicle, September 2006

"Smarts is something Ginger Leigh has always demonstrated and her release from earlier this year, Sugar in My Coffee, is another jolt of java-laced groove and sweetly composed tunes. That's not to suggest they're lightweight or otherwise insubstantial, but rather that Leigh strikes a delicate balance between style, substance, and unrestrained rock & roll, especially on songs such as "Close Enough," "Angel," and "Mexican Man." -- Austin Chronicle, Margaret Moser Sept 2006

Ginger Leigh has been compared to Annie Lennox, Ani diFranco, Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler, and Madonna.
