The beautiful thing about inspiration is that it can come from the highest, the lowest, and the most mundane places. True artists know this and sit back and wait for those moments. They can’t be forced. They must be authentic.

No one understands this better than Gileah Taylor.

Mother, wife, minstrel, and muse, Gileah has written and recorded 10 new songs that make up her new double EP, What Kind of Fool/A Crooked Line. Gileah wrote most of the songs in 2008 while pregnant with her second daughter, Mercie, and awaiting the return home of her husband, Chris Taylor, who was touring in support of his own album.

What Kind of Fool/A Crooked Line is Gileah’s second full-length release with The Love Library, an independent record label in Nashville owned by Allen Salmon. As with the previous release, Gileah and the Ghost Train, Gileah and Allen traveled back and forth from each other’s hometowns of Destin and Nashville, respectively, to record the songs. Gileah wrote and sang. Allen put all of the pieces together, creating the tapestry that makes up What Kind of Fool/A Crooked Line.

“Moms get to be creative every day, whether the creation is a loaf of bread or an hour painting a still life during the kid’s naptime,” Gileah explains. “In every moment my intention is to glorify God. I’m happy that He created me to be creative. I hope that my songs encourage others to be creative- in small, every day ways and in big, eternal ways.”

The first single, “I’m All In” was inspired by an episode of The Gilmore Girls and Jazz by Toni Morrison. Each of the other nine songs tells a story as beautiful and poignant as “I’m All In,” and each of them comes from the same uniquely creative spot in Gileah’s heart. Some are happy. Some are sad. Some are joyful. Some are quirky. All are Gileah.
