gemma grew up on the far north coast of new south wales in australia where she learned to love the rainforest, the beach and the chickens she spoke to each day in equal measure
over the past five years, she's lived in four different countries, and visited many others. on many evenings of summer/fall 2009 gemma rode her bike from work and across the williamsburg bridge to galuminum foil studios where she recorded her first album with brooklyn based singer-songwriter and producer, chris cubeta. the product of those many hours, songs from the long way home is an ode to a city and a love, a recognition that we can find home somewhere other than the physical space in which we grew.
songs from the long way home is now available on itunes and cdbaby and many other places. the artwork was drawn by gemma's dear friend tom milledge and it knocks her socks off every time she looks at it.
during the recording process, some amazing musicians dropped by galuminum to play on different songs. check out: chris cubeta - producer extraordinaire, desk tapping genius and multi-instrumental wonder; ryan vaughn - who brought cajón rhythms and textures; tarrah reynolds - who plays the violin with grace and writes her own incredible music; and patrick hay, gemma's dear friend and phenomenal guitarist who most frequently is seen in the fantastic band great elk, below.
if you like what you hear but can't afford an album, send gemma a message and she'll figure out some way to get one to you. if you like what you hear and want the artwork but don't want to buy a physical cd, send her another message and she'll send you a pdf.
