"The Story of the Geekus Box”

My name is Alex James. I’m eighteen years old and I created this MySpace page in case anyone knew anything about Geekus. In Jan.2007 I moved to New York with my Mom and Dad. My Father bought a house on Long Island and we were there for about a month when I decided to check out the attic. Besides the attic being nasty with bat crap and cob webs there was this very odd strongbox way back in the corner that looked like it had been there forever. At first I thought it would be filled with something like old books or old Playboys, but instead it had all this stuff about Geekus (see Pics). In the box there were a bunch of old pictures, lyric sheet’s, a 1/4 inch reel to reel tape and an old eight track cartridge tape. I actually didn’t even know what an eight track cartridge was until my grandfather told me. Everything in the box was documented and all the pictures had writing on the back of them. That's how I knew how to label the pictures. I sent the eight track cartrage to get converted to CD, I was dying to find out what Geekus sounded like, and they sound totally cool. Check out the vibe on "Spooky" it sounds like a cross of Hendrix and Grand Funk Railroad. THEY ROCK! Keep in mind they were 17 years old on 2 of the songs in the player "Round and Round" & "Spooky" they're from the 8 track cartridge and these songs were recorded with only two microphone’s. The track "A Hard Days Night" is from the reel to reel found in the box. The songs on the reel to reel are studio recordings. I had the songs from the reel to reel mastered. There's info on the inside lid of the reel to reel box that helped lead me to information about Geekus (see Pic).

A letter from Tommy Geekus (see Pics) was in the box saying "who ever finds this to pass this music on". The letter from Tommy Geekus had a request to who ever found the strongbox. It said:

"Hundreds of thousands of people rocked with Geekus. Hopefully you will help them rock again.”

In the 60's Geekus opened for B.B.King, Edger Winter, Brownsville Station, Canned Heat, Mongo Santa Maria and many other groups popular at that time.

"Talk Talk","The Beat Goes On" and "Your Gonna Miss Me" were recorded May 18th 2008 when GEEKUS opened for The Spencer Davis Group in North Miami Beach at the Greynolds Park Love -In, their first gig in 38 years (read info below the Love-In Slide Show about how I finally met GEEKUS).

Thanks to my MySpace friends GEEKUS is ROCKING AGAIN !

Thanks to my MySpace friends for all your help and for helping me find GEEKUS.

Peace out. Alex

“IMPORTANT GEEKUS UPDATE MAY 2008”

Finally after almost a year and a half a lead I received got me in contact with Gary the drummer of GEEKUS. I was flown to Ft. Lauderdale and then brought to the Ritz-Carlton on Miami’s South Beach to meet up with GEEKUS. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was. First of all I have to say the members of GEEKUS are the nicest guys in the world and are so extremely appreciative of what I did for them on MySpace. Before I went to meet GEEKUS Gary had told me they had a surprise for me and what a surprise it was. They invited me to a real 1960’s style Love-In where they performed their first show in 38 years opening the Greynolds Park Love-In in North Miami Beach for The Spencer Davis Group. They thanked me over the sound system to a crowd of over 1000. They said “We’d like to thank Alex for keeping GEEKUS alive on MySpace”. GEEKUS has left me in control of this MySpace page I created for them back in March of 2007. I know there are a lot of questions the GEEKUS MySpace friends would like answered. Now that I’m in contact with GEEKUS, I’ll have the answers.

Peace, Alex

ABOVE IS A "LOVE-IN" SLIDE SHOW with photos of me hanging with GEEKUS, shots of GEEKUS on stage, and a photo of GEEKUS with Spencer Davis.
