1975: born; began singing for pleasure
1981: began piano lessons; developed crush on teacher's daughter
1982: joined elementary school chorus
1985: conducted elementary school chorus during a Christmas recital
1986: began saxophone lessons; quickly achieved first chair
1987: self-taught electric guitar by learning "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me"; told by family friend that what he was playing was the bass line; embarrassed, he wouldn't touch a guitar for 4 years (UPDATE: I just listened to that song and he was wrong, it was the guitar part. Wow, did I waste 4 years.)
1990: formed first legitimate rock band, Sherman
1993: cut first album at Noise New Jersey with Kramer (John Zorn, Bongwater) producing/engineering
1996: purchased a Rogue Moog for $50 (best purchase ever made)
1998: formed second touring rock band, self-titled Gavin Elder
2002: played guitar and composed with pop-country songwriter Shaunna Bolton
2003: opened for Avril Lavigne (obviously the zenith of the story)
2004: traveled to Nashville to record with Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) drumming and producing, and Charlie Brocco (Pink Floyd, George Harrison) engineering and producing; Gavin sang and played all of the other instruments, released undependently as “Rock and/or Roll”
2005: formed the band OFM to tour the material
2006: second trip to Nashville to cut some more songs with OFM
2007: touring; learned Final Cut and DVD Studio Pro to create an OFM EPK DVD/CD
2008: composed music for "Sit and Spin", an instructional DVD on spinning art yarn; edited and authored said DVD
2009: broke neck and skull in bicycling accident, lost full-time job, collapsed
2010: moved to Estes Park, CO, working on another rock record, an instrumental keyboard-based record, an ambient collection, a faux-soul record, and looking to put a new band together. any female multi-instrumentalists who can sing?
