Back around five years ago it was common practice at hardcore shows, then Carpathian started to grow feelings, and over the years were starting to to see less of it. Im not even sure how to explain it, but luckily i have the first track off Take Your Owns' Demo asking me the question 'What The Hell is Hardcore Thug Mosh Anyway?' to remind us of the good old days.

Although they arnt in the slightest way a mosh band, Melbournes Take Your Own have got their fast melodic punk style down pat, and in late 2010, with little live experience, have put forward an impressive demo showcasing three of the bands songs that are sure to push them up amongst the citys more experienced punk bands in no time.

Not knowing what to expect from these guys, i was more than impressed upon receiving a printed card sleeve and disc in the mail instead of a burnt disc showing that these boys are out to make an impression. Seeing a young band go straight to the experience of a dial turning of recording messiah like Joel Taylor is just one of the other big moves that have helped Take Your Own produce a demo that will stand out from the crowd.

Running a fast upbeat sound, this demo showcases the combination of shredding guitars and melodic aggressive vocals. The bands songs writing abilities are defiantly shown through this demo. Progressions within riffs push the driving sounds forward through subtle changes from verse to verse, then more relaxed sections with more creative vocals giving your neck a rest from trying to keep up with all the nodding along in approval. But be aware, a glimpse of sweep guitar and some seriously tasty lead breaks in the track 'Fuck it i Quit' may have you thinking that you may need to grow your hair out and master the sacred art of windmilling.

As a young band looking to find their place Melbournes punk scene, Take Your Own may have only played a couple of shows to date, but are defiantly pushing hard in the right direction to establish themselves and will be well worth worth keeping an eye on over the next few years.
