Fred Lonberg-Holm (1962-) is an improvisational/free jazz cellist from New York state, but is now based out of Chicago, IL. He studied composition under jazz saxophonist Anthony Braxton and improv pianist Morton Feldman. A musician and arranger, he has worked in the rock, pop and country music genres. He currently leads the Valentine Jazz Trio, performing original material as well as the works of jazz keyboardist Sun Ra, and compositions by Jeff Tweedy and Syd Barrett from the rock field. At the same time he works with many other groups such as Vandermark 5, Joe McPhee Trio, and Wilco
