The big deal with Fred Knuxx

He signed a management deal, and is now recording and working with artists on the East and West coasts. That means there's lots of flying back and forth in his future.

Fred Knuxx also just released a new mix taped called "Repo Man . . . Taking the Game Back." (For those who don't know: A mix tape is not something released in stores, but a disc made by combining original music with other people's beats, freestyles and drops.)

Fred Knuxx attributes his success to his win in the DJ Kurupt contest. One of Fred Knuxx's songs was put on a CD with songs by 22 other artists from around the world, and all the songs were put online. The public got to vote, and Fred Knuxx won.

Because of that win, Fred Knuxx has been performing in Manhattan, has generated lots of buzz with his mix tape and has been interviewed on major hip hop Web sites. He's also releasing a commercial album at the end on the year called "The Big Deal," that will be released on his independent label. Yet his focus is still on building the local hip-hop scene.

As part of those efforts , Fred Knuxx will be throwing a hip hop event at the East End Cafe in Newark on August 4.

Fred Knuxx and D. Grayson will be there, along with other local artists Dom 1, Teamelite, A.O. and Hollywood Huff. DJ Amaze will be hosting the event.

It starts at 9 p.m. at the East End Cafe in Newark, and it will be $5 to get in.
