Fran King "could teach doctoral studies in Pop craftsmanship!" ran a review from a US based power-pop enthusiasts website, while waxing lyrical on King's 2006 solo debut album "Beautification". Indeed it's a testament to Fran's song-writing, Melody driven, thought provoking, & well constructed intelligent triple A Pop/Rock, would be equally apt in describing the talents of one of Ireland's finest rising stars catalogue of material thus far.
He was a founding member of "Beach", an Irish based indie band once tipped by Billboard magazine as Ireland's next big thing in the late 90's, who had modest top twenty success in Ireland before disbanding in 1999. A year later, Fran began tentative steps towards recording his aforementioned & highly acclaimed debut solo album.
He also wrote and recorded two short Film soundtracks (one award winning), and has worked in the studio / live with Sir George Martin (Beatles Producer), Tears for fears, Sugababes (UK), Nick Seymour (Crowded House), Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze) to name only a few.
He released another heavily praised album in December 2008, titled "Under the stars" (itsaboutmusic.com) with his side project Sunflow, Consisting of Fran, and New Jersey native, Nancy Falkow. The album continues to attract a global audience, with critics comparing King's voice & talents with that of legendary artists like Nilsson & Paul McCartney. high praise indeed.
"My Sweet Elixir", Produced & performed by Fran, & featuring a plethora of wonderful guest musicians, has added depth to his growing reputation for wonderfully crafted songs destined for an ever expanding worldwide fanbase.
A brand new band project, "Edison", will be unveiled in 2012. The band's debut album has just been recorded in Dublin, with producer Gavin Glass at the helm. The result is a themed album about the exploits of the notorious bank robber, John Dillinger. Watch this space
