Fonderia was born in the late 90s a trio playing improvised music. Since then the band gradually expanded its sound and influences, exploring musical landscapes that span from jazz-rock to ambient, from world music to funk, and it became a quintet. The word Fonderia is the Italian for “foundry”, indicating the band’s strong attitude to mix sounds and genres.

In December 2002 the first album by Fonderia, “Fonderia” (Biz-BTF) was released, obtaining very good response from Italian radios ad magazines, and gained the Darwin Award in April 2004, as the best Italian record of 2003.

In July 2006“re>>enter” was released by VinylMagic/BTF. With the new album, that features Rodolfo Maltese (Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso), Pap Yeri Samb (Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio) and Marcello Allulli, Fonderia moved into new and different directions. After a few months “re>>enter” already gained enthusiastic reviews and the award Toast/M.E.I. as best instrumental record of 2006.

The band also experimented interaction with other arts: poetry in the project “I racconti della Fonderia” (Tales from Fonderia), with lyrics by Nicola Bultrini begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting, and improvised painting (with artists Francesco Nespola and Francesco Parruzza).

Fonderia worked on soundtracks for short movies, and composed music for silent movies, gaining international awards at the festival Rimusicazioni 2001 and Strade Del Cinema 2003 - International Festival of live music for Silent Movies (First Prize for the music on “My wife’s relations” by Buster Keaton); the soundtrack was released in the CD “Notes on Frame” (Strade Del Cinema, 2003).

Further, Fonderia composed music for theatre, and for documentaries by Italian National Television (RAI), collaborating also with Baffo Banfi (from the 70’s Italian band Biglietto per l’Inferno).

The group performed many concerts around Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg, participating to important festivals such as Arezzo Wave, Villa Celimontana Jazz, Lecco Art Lab, Strade del Cinema, and performing with other artists as Rodolfo Maltese (Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso) , Mauro Pagani (PFM) , actress-singer Angela Baraldi and film-director, Oscar-winner, Gabriele Salvatores.

Fonderia is just going to release the third album My grandmother's space suit , that was recorded with producer Marco Migliari at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios (UK).
