Flashtrain is a new and upcoming group, located in the Greater Smokey Mountain Region. The band was reorganized in early 2007 by Nicholas Ball. You can distinguish a traditional edge with a progressive punch from this high-energy group of young entertainers. With a large variation of singing styles and arrangements, you are sure to find something pleasing when listening to Flashtrain. We play on a regular basis in Gatlinburg and at Maggie Valley, as well as touring throughout the USA for Bluegrass Festivals. Flashtrain is going to the studio soon to cut a new CD and we will get the music uploaded as much as possible.

NICHOLAS BALL, from Newport TN, is a multi-talented musician. Nick started out playing the guitar at the age of 11 and the banjo at age 14. Nick has played the National FFA Convention (which over 32,000 people attended) when he was only 16 years old. An original member of the East Tennessee band, “Mountain Edge”, he has also filled in with Grammy winning bluegrass band, David Davis and the Warrior River Boys. Nick and Andy met in TN and became friends and decided to work together towards their dream, both are original members of Flashtrain. Nick will continue to make a name for himself in the world of bluegrass as one of the best young banjo players in the business. This very talented young man can play the banjo, guitar, bass, and mandolin.

ANDY RUFF, from Jeffersonville IN, started playing the fiddle at the age of 9 and resonator guitar at the age of 11. Andy was home-schooled so he could travel with his family's band, The Sunnysiders, they are a traditional country gospel band. At the age of 16, Andy started touring with Karl Shiflette & Big Country Show, he followed this tour up with Honi Deaton & Dream, next on his list came Wildfire. During his time in TN he met and became friends with Nick and the two decided to work together towards their goal, both of these young men are original members of Flashtrain. This gifted young man is continuing to make a name for himself in the bluegrass world and he will go places. Andy Ruff endorses Hobie Resonator Guitars.

JORDAN RICE, from Greensboro NC, was a late bloomer and didn't start playing the mandolin until he was 15 years old. Jordan was born to not only a traditional bluegrass family, but an extremely well known one too. His father Wyatt Rice and his uncle Tony Rice play with The Tony Rice Unit. Jordan was greatly influenced by his uncle Larry Rice, who was a mandolin legend in the bluegrass scene. This young man is the last member of his family to carry on the Rice family heritage of music. Jordan took to the mandolin so well that he was able to make his debut on stage playing with his famous family. Having recently joined Flashtrain, he is ready to branch out and make a name for himself in the world of bluegrass. Jordan brings his own unique artistic nature to the band and he is amazing to watch and he will go far on his own ability and skill.
