Refusing to conform to a genre, Melbourne, Australia’s Five Star Prison Cell (FSPC) is intent on forging its own path, fusing a wide range of styles to create bold, cutting edge, heavy music.
Since debuting in 2005 FSPC has turned heads with their ability to switch time, pace, genre, and style with unnerving speed. Their fresh, unique sound coupled with their intense live shows has led to a loyal and ever-growing following.
The band’s debut full length album, “The Complete First Season” was released in 2005, earning them rave reviews and a prestigious regional tour support slot with Arch Enemy (Sweden). The band kept building momentum, and in 2006 FSPC supported Danzig (USA) as they toured the east coast of Australia. Throughout the year FSPC shared the stage with Australian heavyweights Blood Duster, Spiderbait, Psycroptic, Daysend, Fuck. I’m Dead, Alarum, Karnivool, and Alchemist among others. They also secured a spot on Queensland’s Overcranked Festival. To cap off a great year, they took home the 2006 Musicoz Award for Best Metal/Hardcore Band.
Determined to raise the bar, and to push their creativity and musicianship, FSPC headed back to the studio to record their second full length album, “Slaves of Virgo” which was released in 2007. The acclaimed release was a catalyst, propelling the band back onto the road with a headlining national tour. They maintained large crowds while hitting every major Australian city at least three times in the space of four months. They continued to win over new fans at festivals such as Against the Grain, Sonic Forge Festival, Festival of the Dead, and Slayfest. FSPC supported The Black Dahlia Murder (USA) and Cephalic Carnage (USA) on their tour of Australia and New Zealand, allowing the band to perform overseas for the first time. FSPC wrapped up 2007 by performing and presenting an award at the 2007 Musicoz Awards.
The band continued to tour into 2008, supporting The Dillinger Escape Plan (USA) and playing shows consistently throughout the year including The Metalstock Festival.
In 2009, Five Star Prison Cell began to write their third album while continuing to perform live to Australian and New Zealand audiences. An extensive New Zealand tour took place in December along with a slot on the 2009 “Summer Rage Festival”. The band also performed at the First Annual Australian Metal Awards, and was named as a finalist for three of the award categories including the award for “Best Live Band” and “Best Film Clip”.

2010 was the year Five Star released their most accomplished work to date "MATRIARCH".
Two years of writing and 1 solid month in stuidio with Australia's most talented producer
Forrester Savell (Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect) culminated into an album that surpassed all
expectations earning amazing reviews and making it into quite a few top 10 lists for the year.
With a June release of MATRIARCH under their belts, the band embarked on
a massive 30 show tour spanning every state and territory in the country and made 2010
probably the busiest year the band had seen so far in their short career.
Who knows what will be in store for 2011, but the band looking for some new challnges and to
have some fun will be performing a live show in Melbourne covering The Amazing Red Hot Chili Pepper's album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" in it's
entirity. They will of course continue do shows and assault people with their catalog of crazy compisitions
as well as writing and creating for that is what they love doing best.
Five Star Prison Cell's back catalog is available on iTunes, Online retailers and all good record stores.
