There are certain singers whom we feel that we connect with from the very first time we hear them. As the intimacy of their delivery and the subtle shading of their interpretation draw us in, a whole personality seems to take shape in our imagination…. This is FERNANDO.
The Story.
• FERNANDO CARDO was born Cordoba, ARGENTINA . Fernando was interested in music from an early age and as a boy built himself a one-string instrument. He began singing in city hall of Cordoba choirs at age five. He also sung in multiple choirs throughout high school and college.
• From the start, soul music captivated him and as a result, he would research and learn from the work of artists such as Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Take 6, George Benson, Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Al Green, Will Downing, Brian McKnight, and many more. Allowing these legends to shape and mold him, enabled Fernando to develop his strong vocals and the highest standard of excellence with a personal style unique to who he is and a passion for connecting with others and sharing life’s experience through music.
• Since early in his career, he has convoked for the celebrated director “Hugo De La Vega ” to be part of the Polyphonic Choir of the “Libertador San Martín” Theater (one of the most important theaters in Argentina)
• In 2003, Fernando was solely chosen to represent Córdoba, in the talent TV Show “POPSTARS”, Buenos Aires . He was awarded the finalist place out of 5,000 artists countrywide. The judges of the show encouraged him to pursue a professional career as a solo artist.
• In the summer of 2003 Fernando auditioned for Cordoba Gospel Choir and was chosen to be a member of the group. He has performed several shows at top venues across the country with them for over four years and has collaborated with them on two albums and singing as a soloist on several tracks.
During this period, Fernando and Cordoba Gospel Choir had the privilege of working with the Harlem Gospel Choir and Gregory Hopkins’ Greatest Voices of Gospel. At the same time Fernando appeared regularly with the popular Funk & Soul band “Oversoul” as a lead singer. Since 2004 to the present Fernando consistently lends his talents to many commercial Jingles, sings backgrounds vocals for major labels as well as arranging.
• In 2007 he moved to Buenos Aires to improve and develop his career as a solo artist. During the last year he has worked on various projects with Soul and R&B musicians nationwide and globally.
• Most recently he had the privilege of singing with the classic R&B and Soul singer “Ollan Christopher Bell”, an original member of the “Natural Fours” while touring in Argentina.
From 2004 onward, Fernando participated in diverse recording productions, producing choruses
and vocal arrangements for other artists, while at the same time, he was asked to
record mock ups of songs for recording label productions.Fernando has performed numerous
commercial jingles throughout Cordoba and Argentina (including a Presidential campaign in
2005). During this time Fernando also appeared regularly throughout Argentina with the
popular Funk & Soul band “Oversoul” as lead singer.
More recently, Fernando had the privilege of singing with the classic R&B and Soul singer
“Ollan Christopher Bell”, an original member of the “Natural Fours” while touring in Argentina.
Mr.Bell was the producer and right-hand man of the legendary Johnny Lee Hooker,
accompanying Johnny Lee during his comeback, earning several Grammy Awards for his

• In 2008, Fernando was invited to the U.S. by Mark Kibble of the famous group Take 6 (winners of 11 Grammys). In August of this year, he participated in the Master Class given by Take 6 at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, having the honor of singing live with the group.
• Fernando is currently in LA (U.S.) rehearsing for a Broadway type production and working in collaborations with several producers.
He recorded the song "You Never Know" and “Nunca Sabras” (Spanish Version) for the IMPERIAL CD produced by Armand Tulumello (TransPath Records) and also contributed with background vocals in different tracks of the same CD.
• Fernando is also recording with platinum producer Mitchel Delevie (A & M Records, Warner, Motown Records)

Undiscovered Gem: FERNANDO CARDO
If there ever was an example of how global the art of music has become over the decades, Fernando Cardo is it. Fernando is a soulful young R&B/Gospel singer who's just as talented as any of the top Soul vocalists in the U.S. today. It's amazing that this guy isn't signed to a label. But he's not, which is why he's being featured here, in About R&B's week-long salute to great artists who for one reason or another, aren't signed to a major record label. Fernando has a smooth, Latin lover-type style that can favorably be compared to big-name artists like Brian McKnight, Will Downing, George Benson and even the late, great Luther Vandross.
