Biography



‘Qilla Fang’, born October 8th, 1986, is the fruit of a family tree well rooted in the music arts, stemming back to his late grand father who was an accomplished and well respected musician in Nassau, new providence, the Bahamas. His father, teacher and mentor is one of the best musicians in the Bahamas, specializing in jazz. His mother is a well known and well respected singer and has also been working as a radio personality for over 12 years, first at Cool 96Fm, and currently at Love 97Fm in Freeport Grand Bahama, The Bahamas. There is no doubt that music is definitely in his blood. From a baby only months old, he always had rhythm in his bones. When his father would turn on the windshield wipers in the rain, Ashanti would begin to dance and move to the sound.

Qilla Fang has been trained in the art of music from the tender age of 4 starting off learning the drum set. By the age of 6, He had become an accomplished drummer with the help of his father. At this age, he also began to perform; playing the drums in churches and at school.

As time progress, Qilla Fang grasped the feel for his musical ability even tighter. He branched off and started learning other instruments such as the electric and acoustic guitar, keyboard and bass guitar. At the age of 11, he ventured into his fathers music room and started to play around with his fathers recording equipment. He started making beats out of video game sounds and anything else he could sample. At 13 years old, he sold his first beat for about $25. It was here that his love for composition was attained. Over time, Ashanti picked up a pen and started to put lyrics to his music, trying his hand at many different genres of music.

Later, Qilla Fang interest in the field of recording and productions grew stronger. He bought and brought home stacks of books at a time trying to further his knowledge on the subject. Being the independent individual that he is, Qilla Fang moved into his own apartment at the age of 16. He got a job as a drummer and back up vocalist at a place called Port Lucaya Market Place, where he still currently works occasionally. Now, he also has made a name for himself in the field of music and production. On his own, he has acquired a full understanding of Pro Tools and has recorded for names such as Jah Hem and Elephant Man. He is now owner and sole proprietor of Sharp Toof Productions, a business that specializes in Recording and Post Production.

He has also created a ‘buzz’ being one of the Bahamas’ best rappers. He has release 3 singles (Jah Help Me, Weirdo, and Paper Chaser) and is currently finishing his album entitled ‘Beneath The Surface’. His Style of rap differs greatly from any other. His word play, clever punch lines and ability to create complex rhythms are unrivaled.

At 21 now, his dream is simply to get signed and be able to make good music that can give him the support he needs to in turn support his Wife Jackee and 9 month old son Saes. There is no doubt about it. Music is his life. Qilla Fang is Music
