The Shakes, formed back in early 2006, consisted of Clint Woolsey, Marcus Brown, and Phill Mann. After several line up changes, the band now has added Mike Thompson and Paul Zettler, and is a strong, original, three guitar, five piece rock outfit.
Clint Woolsey, guitar and vocals, and Phill Mann, drums, spent seven years playing together in SoulHitch, which was based out of Nashville and had some underground success with record sales and touring. With SoulHitch, Clint Woolsey was the primary songwriter, and now with The Shakes it is a group effort, which reflects the many influences of the band. Clint has been influenced by The Doors, The Allman Brothers, Drive By Truckers, Failure, Waylon Jennings, and George Strait, bringing a style of his own in singing, playing, and writing to The Shakes.
Marcus Brown, guitar, a music mainstay since the early 90's with the Vegas Cocks, to the turn of the century with Horse. He has shared touring bills with bands such as Hootie and the Blowfish, Hoodoo Guru, Great White, and Skid Row playing venues across the country from CBGB's to South by Southwest in Austin. With a very bluesy rock influence, Marcus brings a very original style of playing and writing to The Shakes.
Paul Zettler, bass, hails from Mississippi, a state with diverse musical influences. Blues, rock and roll and country all have influenced his playing. Paul cut his teeth playing in bands and on the road over the last several years. He brings a very original sound with his writing, playing, and singing to his latest venture, The Shakes. He says this finds him right where he belongs, Rockin and Rollin'!
Mike Thompson, guitar, has been playing since the early age of 9, and has been influenced by bands from Kiss to Van Halen, as well as players like Randy Rhodes and Dimebag Darryl. Playing with bands like Daddy Long Leg, 3035, and Undercover Outlaw, one can definitely hear the heavier, very rock oriented style of writing and playing that Mike brings to the band.
Phill Mann, drums, grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and has been playing from a very early age. Influenced by drummers and bands like John Bonham and Led Zepplin, Keith Moon and The Who, and Phil Collins with Genesis, Phill brings his very own style of hard hitting playing to The Shakes. A songwriter as well, the five member collaboration of this band produces a sound of their very own.
