Evan Jackson

My music is a living journal of my everyday life. It's more than just about me and the things that affect me, it's about all those I come in contact with on a daily basis. My music is my Voice. I'm influenced by everything I've ever heard but those artists I draw from are Take 6, Brandy, Beyonce, Rodney Jerkins, The Underdogs, Jill Scott, India.Arie, Donny Hathaway, Lala Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, and the list goes on and on. Honestly I'm not sure what sets me apart from other bands or artists. When I make music I try and tell my story exactly the way I feel it and I think people can relate to that and that's why they like my music. I come from a musical family. My fathers dream was to become a recording artist but he was called to preach. My mother also sang growing up. Before I was born they were in a group called the Jackson singers. Later on when I was a child, another group was formed called the brother's in Christ. The members consisted of my father, his two brothers, and some of their friends. I knew every word to every song. I remember when they'd perform, there was something about them, just like every other person I admired in entertainment. They weren't just up there singing, there was something more behind it. I didn't really start singing until I was 5. I hit a peak when I was 13, that's when I feel it was cemented that music was my calling. I wasn't that great but the emotion that hit me when singing, it was like I wasn't myself. Like something else was singing through me. To this day I have that same feeling.
