The Euphonium is the Tenor member of the tuba family and is commonly used in Wind Ensembles, Brass Bands, Marching Bands, and Drum and Bugle Corps throughout the planet. The Euphonium, like the Saxophone and the Celesta, are rarely used in Orchestras. If they are, usually a trombone or tuba player plays the Euphonium Solo. The Euphonium's name comes from the Greek word Euphonion which means "Sweet-Voiced" or "Beautiful-Sounding", thus making it an Ideal solo Instrument. Many people often confuse the Euphonium with it's cousin the Baritone. However the Baritone has more of a Cylindrical bore and produces a brighter tone similar to the Trombone. The Euphonium has more of a conical bore and produces a more darker, warm tone equivalent to the Cornet, Flugelhorn, or the French Horn. Jazz Euphoniums are very rare, but they are commonly found in lots of Middle School Jazz Band Programs and Some High School Jazz Bands. Most of the time the Euphonium is a backround instrument, usually playing chords or bass rhythms, The Euphonium also plays the Counter Melody role, or the Euphonium could have the Melody and even a solo. Many people do not know what a euphonium is. About ever 1-60 people know what this marvelous instrument is but few say it's the Baritone. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
