Throughout the years as a guitar player and sound engineer, I have come across many great musicians who I have been fortunate to create music with. The newest project I have conceived, ''undermine the effect,'' is a 2 piece band in which the steady flow of psychadelic loop oriented guitar sounds and groovey drums are layered with improvised guitar licks and poetic words with sometimes dubble meanings. We use a guitar and bass amp so our tones arent just in the middle of the frequency spectrum.
Undermine started in Los Angeles around 2007, as I was trying to figure out how to make a great sounding 2 piece with modern technology. Because live looping has become such a modern phenomenom, I felt like I could seriously do some amazing things with this concept. Finding drummers who can play well to looped music isn't an easy task, but I have always found people who share similar ideas that I have, and who can bring out exactly what I'm looking for, and then some.
In January of 2009 I relocated to the gulf coast of Mississippi, where I began recording the undermine EP. I was so thankful to be working with such great musicians, such as Philip L'Enfant who played drums in my project. He inspired me to write great songs, such as 'Alone' and 'salt the snail.'
Undermine was short lived in Mississippi because in July of 2009 I moved to Gothenburg, Sweden where I teamed up with native Martin Carlenfors, another amazing drummer who brought such life and dynamics to the undermine project.
In the beginning of 2010, Andreas Westholm joined the band, taking the duties of the bass player and leaving the concept of a 2 piece by giving the band a better low end sound.
It is now July 2010 and undermine the effect is back with Phil on drums. We're stoked.
July 2011. We finished out first album titled: DEEPWATER HORIZON. Google it. Download it.
As of now we are in the never ending process of song-idea creation. which goes far beyond the typical song writing because a few of our songs are different every time we perform them. not saying what we do is mindless jamming, but on top of our basic structure we enjoy letting our minds take our music to an unexpected place, and never playing the same show twice. Hope you enjoy!
