In 2006, musician Isaac Leland set out to follow through on a vision. He always knew that he was destined to make great music but he was also well aware that putting a band together, keeping it together and then trying to make a living from it would be a stiff challenge indeed. Still, he forged ahead, found other musicians and soon, the Indie alternative rock band Entice was up and running
Entice was up and running so well in fact that they started by touring with the music and extreme sports festival, Van’s Warped Tour; performed live for the U. S. forces overseas in both South Korea and Japan and followed that up with a U. S. tour. Then, in 2009, they won the hotly contested 98.7fm Rockstar Competition held in Universal City, California winning a purse of over $20,000 in both cash and prizes. Not too bad for just getting started.
After a few initial member changes, Isaac finally found the talent and drive he was looking for. "My good friends Kevin Brunhober, Tony Chopp and Kevin Doyle have extraordinary talent and I'm lucky to be working with them." says Isaac. The right sound seems to come together with Isaac on lead vocals but all are quick to agree that the individual is not nearly as important as the collective effort; especially when they get together and belt out such fan favorites as “Who’s Got Your Money” and “The Watchman” just to name a few.
Based out of Orange County, California, all are natives with the exception of Tony who emigrated from Michigan in 2006. Native or not, Tony is a perfect match for the band at lead guitar. Kevin Brunhober plays bass and has been involved in music since age 8. “When I got out of high school, I decided I needed to look for an act that was more mature sounding,” says Brunhober. Entice provides that professional challenge not only for Brunhober but for the entire band as well. The final piece to the puzzle came in the form of drummer Keith Doyle who has been active in and around the California music scene since age 15.
The band’s story has taken an awesome turn in the last few months. Entice has won their 2nd large cash prize battle of the bands in less than a year, beating out 300 hundred other bands to take the top spot in San Diego’s “MusicPalooza” contest; they’re playing great shows with cool bands and the fans are loving the live act. They’ve just recently finished up their West Coast “Here and There” tour; their critically acclaimed full length CD “Let the Fire Come” is available and they are currently in the studio working on their 2nd album, due out sometime in early 2011.
In a world where so much of the music is commercially produced, the gentle rock melodies of Entice are a breath of fresh air. But it is more than that. Their lyrics often carry a level of professionalism that reaches far above the typical love, lust and heartbreak so common today.
Leland set out with a vision and now, with the help of good friends, who also happen to be extremely talented and creative musicians, Entice is having the success it was meant to have. Here’s a good piece of advice: If you haven’t had the chance to see Entice and the opportunity presents itself, don’t pass it up.
