MILWAUKEE'S BEST

RAP/HIP-HOP GROUP, Winner

Black Elephant

Unlike other “positive” hip-hop groups that rely on preachy songs and heavy-handed messages, Black Elephant delivers militant manifestos over commanding beats that shine with the lushness of neo-soul and the jazzy imagination of early ’90s Native Tongue acts, but is also driven by the urgency of underground, hardcore rap. With a massive sound every bit as commanding as their evocative moniker implies, this trio has rightly been hailed as one of the local hip-hop scene’s biggest treasures. (E.R.)

With a name like Element, this twenty-something Detroit, Michigan native is definitely no small force to be reckoned with. She is the newest sensation to sweep the hip-hop, neo soul nation by storm. Her sociopolitical, sometimes controversial, lyrics have drawn comparisons to some of the industries most prolific performers; past and present. But make no mistake, Element is no imitation anyone. Far from your average Jane do, she brings a refreshing redefinition to the artist/songwriter title that she wears. Whether she is throwing bows or rubbing them, Element has no problem gaining respect and recognition from her fellow emcees in the game.

As a testimony to her melodic voice and innovative song-writing skills, Element was chosen among artists such as Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Genuine, to grace, Deliver Us From Eva, the soundtrack to the major motion-picture by rapper/actor L.L. Cool J. Her song, Show and Prove, was inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths and is certifiably this years hottest anthem and ode to the Black Man.

Although she has yet to completely reveal her total cache, Elements talent and charisma has managed to generate enough praise and notoriety to rival the average industry artist. She is humble, knowing that her phenomenal rise to success is due to her ability to stay grounded. You are likely to find this artist participating in a discussion about the political lyrics of Bob Marley, perfecting the scat of Nina Simone, or presenting a poetic U Be Fly, Elements goal is to bring awareness to issues seemingly buried and forgottenby todays recording artist. She makes it a point to push political/social issues to the forefront of her live shows, when performing "American Pie, Terror Is Him, Reparations for the Real Artist"

Even with everything that she has on her plate, Element still manages to keep local fans in awe with her riveting performances as one-half of the group Black Elephant. Black Elephant is currently touring to promote their album entitled "eat this album" and you can also hear her voice in the Mc Donalds 365 Black ads. This natural tattooed and pierced vegan is everything that you'd read about and more. Element is currently getting ready to be the voice of Milwaukee, as an on air personality and promotions manager for for a major "new" radio station in Milwaukee Radio For Milwaukee.
