It all started at age four, when Tim Neuhaus's older brother handed down his first "KISS" record…
It must have been the flames, the lights, the blood, the loud screaming of Rock'n'Roll that captivated him immediately. Tim was age six when his father took him to his first rock concert in 1979 ("KISS" with "Lover Boy" in Vancouver). "KISS" had many collectibles such as their "KISS cards" sold in packs with gum, much like baseball cards. This was right around the time when Tim's baby teeth were falling out. Instead of asking for money under the pillow from the tooth fairy, he requested "KISS" cards. To give an idea of how big of a fan he was, Tim would loosen and pull out his own teeth to claim another pack. When his new teeth grew in, he started to discover many new artists that his older brother introduced him to. They were mostly modern bands of the time in all genres from pop, rock, brit punk, new wave. Tim took up guitar at age ten and buried himself in "guitar hero rock" (VanHalen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vi and every other guitar solo artist on Shrapnel Records). Tim dissected solos note for note by ear. This forced him to learn why certain keys and scales work with certain cord progressions and this helped develop an ear for tuning and perfect pitch. He would lock himself away in his room for hours on end practicing his craft, learning to play with relentless speed and precision up and down his scales. This would drive most parents completely nuts. However, Tim's parents were very supportive of his passion. Finally, Tim felt he was ready to leave the nest and find a band to play in. Thus, his music career started.
Throughout his early twenties, he played in many original bands all the way up to his most successful band "PLEASURE" in 1999. Tim actively wrote most of the musical material and would record songs at his private recording studio (EAR ART MUSIC STUDIOS). "PLEASURE" had a good kick at the can with their first record "Joyologist", a self produced album mixed by Mike Plotnikoff (Three Days Grace, Motley Crew, Aerosmith etc.). Tim learned a lot of tricks while working with Mike and felt blessed to work with him. While in session, Mike gave Tim a sneak peek of the new "KISS" "Psycho Circus" album that he had just completed. Tim was honored. "PLEASURE"s original members dispended when it lost its singer. Tim's bass player and long time friend had prompted him into trying to fulfill the role. Tim had always demoed their songs with his own voice, but never took singing seriously. Always up for a challenge, Tim decided to step up to the microphone. "PLEASURE" worked on their second record (Dreamin') with producer Joey Moi (Nickleback, Default, Thornley) and honed their song writing skills with song writer Brian Howes (Hedley, Hinder, Thornley). Working with Joey, Tim picked up a few more ProTools tricks to add to his bag.
Throughout the lifespan of "PLEASURE" Tim was working out of his studio that he founded in 1997, producing many of Vancouver's most talented artists. He also worked in and out of some of Vancouver's finest recording studios (Warehouse, The Armoury, Greenhouse) and had taken note of what he liked and what would work in his own studio. He accumulated high end recording gear that met his specifications to deliver world class recordings (ironically, he bought his recording console from "Lover Boy"). Working with so many artists, Tim was developing an ear for the art of song writing, producing and engineering. Soon this took over his love for performing. He gracefully bowed out of his band "PLEASURE", but not until he was replaced by singer Cam Melnyk. The band changed their name and is now known as "STATE OF SHOCK", a name which Tim gave them one day at the studio. This was often a state one would feel if hanging out with these guys. He continued to work with them and produced their debut album "Guilty by Assosiation"/2004, which helped pave the way to their successful career today. Right around that time (the summer of 2004), Tim took on a full time assistant (Clayton Creed) and decided to construct Studio 2. Tim has continued to build his music career as one of Vancouver's leading music producers on the Indie scene. Known as "Tricky Timmy", he has had modest success with his artists on all formats of radio and will continue flooding the airwaves with quality music, being a valid contribution to Canadian Music.
