Acoustic rock with country appeal. that is the music of rising singer/songwriter Dusty Hicks. With his fresh sound, Dusty is making quite a name for himself in the Nashville scene.
Dusty, 28, has an impressive list of performances in Nashville and has played from California to North Carolina. He has showcased at the New Nashville Music Conference and can been seen in writers rounds at the renowned Bluebird Caf� throughout the year.
Dusty is currently co-writing with many writers and new artist in Nashville. He released his acoustic album, Long Way Home, earlier this year. The album features all original material, and includes live tracks recorded at the French Quarter.
Dusty takes his musical influences from artists and writers such as Brian Wilson, Bob Seger, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 and Jack Johnson. His style and sound directly reflect his admiration of these musical idols.
"I grew up listening to the Beach Boys with my parents," says Dusty. "Brian Wilson is a genius as a songwriter."
Born and raised in Cleveland, Tennessee, Dusty began singing in church by the age of four. He purchased his first guitar his senior year of high school, and he taught himself to play. He gave his first major performance at the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, TN.
Dusty graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in the number one college of Recording Industry in the country. He received his Bachelor's of Science in Production and Technology with a minor in music business. Dusty also served on the Board of Directors of the first ever NSAI student chapter.
"Going to MTSU and being around Nashville to see the industry and how everything works is amazing," says Dusty. "It's great to connect with other songwriters that have songs published and learn from them."
Dusty plans to release a full-production version of Long Way Home later this year. He also is devoting his time as the Co-Founder for the publishing company ScareBird. "I'll always believe and follow my dreams." says Dusty, "you have got keep doing it, believing, never give up. and just enjoy the ride." Dusty is one to watch in the next few years, and he promises to be a success.
