Duo Canto

Scottish schoolgirls Nikki and Becki Rice are 17-year old twins who started singing lessons with an experienced voice tutor in 2003. This was at the request of their grandmother Doreen who had noticed the natural quality of their voices when she heard them sing. The girls were somewhat reluctant and protested at the possibility they might have to sing classical songs. This is now their preference although they are also beginning to record non-classical pieces.



Their tutor soon found that they made good pupils who had good voices and learnt fast. Since they each had piano and a second instrument, sight-reading and basic musical skills were already in place. They duly entered local singing competitions and, while doing well enough, were generally overcome with nerves or perhaps even embarrassment. They did well against competition from much older, better trained contestants, however, and their voices were soon noticed. "The twins" soon became known among their school friends as a pair who could sing.



Nikki and Becki have not pushed themselves into the public eye and indeed have required much persuasion to record clips or tracks at all. Only after massive feedback from supporters of established singers have the girls begun to believe they do have talent which people want to share.
