Dubblestandart – Marijuana Dreams)
For the last two decades one of the most important production teams actively creating 21st century dub in Europe,
Vienna's Dubblestandart, kept a uniquely inspiring version of the dub flame alive:
Formed in 1988 the group was heavily inspired by the sounds from legendary dub think-tanks: the Black Ark, Adrian
Sherwood's On-U Sound label or sound system operator Jah Shaka. Internalising these Dub influences within their
own heady blend of "Hardcore"-Reggae and New Wave set their pace. In demand as a backing band for their live
shows (check LEE PERRY & DUBBLESTANDART @ Centralpark NYC 2009, ARI UP, DILLINGER, a.o) as well as for their
own studio productions, Dubblestandart became an international DUB act performing across Europe, Canada and
the United States.
"Marijuana Dreams", the bands 12th album, approves their unique status with a compilation of splendid
collaborations including musicians and artists Anthony B., Elephant Man, William S. Burroughs, David Lynch and Lee
"Scratch" Perry.



Recordings took place in Kingston-Jamaica, Bronx-New York and the band's own studio in Vienna-Austria.
Dubblestandart's handling of this mission has been exemplary: their productions are visionary and individualistic,
retaining plenty of originality without seeming dull or contrived.
A Dubstep version on Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygen Part 4 with vocals from David Lynch and Lee Scratch Perry from
NYC's SUBATOMIC SOUND SYSTEM (taken from Dubblestandarts adaption "Chrome Optimism"/Return From Planet
Dub Album 2009) ends this astonishing album that includes heavy bass driven songs and dub versions, making
"Marijuana Dreams" to one of the most extraordinary DUB productions in 2011.
