The DNA Orchestra are Kate Smith and Paul Main.

The group was formed out of a shared love for Jazz, Blues and Classical music and a desire to combine the timeless qualities of these genres with the power and clarity of modern beats from styles such as Hip Hop and Drum and Bass. This vision was realised using samples mixed with classical and non-classical instruments, with inventive scratch DJing and technical mastery from Paul helping to fuse these styles together and bring The DNA Orchestra to life.

Add Kate's full repertoire of enchanting melodies and her unique instrumental vocal style into the mix and you have The DNA Orchestra sound. A captivating Leftfield mix of the old and new, Simple yet diverse, alternative but accessible.

Their sound is made all the more intriguing in their live shows as the group’s flexibility allows specific tailoring of sets depending on venue and event. This sees them shifting between electro, dance driven sets as a duo, full on band performances involving a plethora of live instruments, and intimate acoustic gigs with Kate orchestrating and performing stunning selections from their repertoire with only strings, percussion and woodwind.

In 2006 Azuli signed the single Samurai, with a remix by top dance DJ Paul Jackson. It received extensive Radio One support from the likes of Annie Nightingale, Annie Mac and Pete Tong and was a big hit across the summer sessions in Ibiza, subsequently landing on half a dozen hit compilations including Underwater V and Space Ibiza. This has led to The DNA Orchestra writing and guesting on tracks for such renowned DJ’s as Paul Jackson and featuring on various other releases. Recently they have worked. with Gung Ho again for the release ‘Can’t stop Them’, currently featured on GUNG HO'S ‘CALLING ALL NATIONS’ album and ‘MOS Annuals.

Alongside this Kate also writes, records and performs with other Liverpool artists, such as Barbieshop, The Hive's Corporate Athlete, Strange Brood and Anni Hogan.

The DNA orchestra's new album was produced by PIRATE INDUSTRIES and Alex Dunford.
