Hello. I’m D. Lloyd and welcome to “My Space”…

I am a Singer, Songwriter, and Producer. People call me D. Lloyd. I was born Daryll La Rosa Dewayne Lloyd in Marks, Mississippi on April 23rd but “D”is my title of preference.

My love affair with music began in my early years when I noticed an old upright piano that sat in my grandmother’s living room. I viewed it as a instrument with infinite possibility. I have always had a natural attraction to the piano. One day I witnessed my Aunts playing the piano and singing and, to me, they made things seem so simple. That’s when I fell in love with the music. From that experience - after having seen them play - it seemed simple to me to sit down and play the piano myself.

It was during this period that I taught myself to play basic chords along with melodies. I sat at the piano for hours. My natural desire to play compelled me to continue to practice. When I listened to the radio, I played along with every song that I could.

The first time I knew that I had a voice was in the 2nd grade after singing in the back of class to a girl. When I sang, she turned around and let me know that I sang well. I went on from there.

I wrote my first song at the age of nine - and titled it “She Is New” - for a girl classmate… This was my way of expressing my puppy love attraction to a new classmate. It also was the first time I took a chance on writing my own lyric.

Rooted in the richness of the southern church, I honed my talents and trained my voice as best I could to be as unique as possible. I journeyed to New York at age 14 (when my family moved up north) to pursue my dream of becoming a complete artist. That is, a composer, lyricist, producer and vocalist. I attended Dodd Jr. High School in Freeport, Long Island and after graduation I attended Freeport High School for while. Shortly after that, I transferred to Roosevelt High School in Roosevelt, Long Island.

At Roosevelt, I met a young lady who became my high school sweetheart and she inspired me to write poems and love letters about romance. After graduation my cousin Dee and I formed a musical group called Shilo and we concentrated on Rap/R&B. We received positive support for the shows that we performed. Despite all it still was not enough to satisfy my desire to express myself sincerely. My mission was to move and touch people from within. I needed more to write about.

I returned to Mississippi to search for a deeper understanding of what I was destined to do in this world of music. Coming home allowed me a chance to establish my own identity. I went on to create my library of songs. Now more focused than ever, I came back to New York to explore the different aspects of the entertainment industry. While struggling to make a mark and sharpen my gifts, I entered many amateur talent contests and was blessed to win most of them. including the famous Apollo Amateur Night Talent Show in New York City. I won that one three weeks in succession. For me, that was one of the more exhilarating and exciting moments of my career to date. I also gave a performance at the Black Expo in Gary, Indiana that was very well-received.

Long-time friend and producer Soul and I formed DENA Entertainment Inc., which specialized in writing songs and music production. It was through this production team that my demo CD captured the attention of Walker Enterprises of NY (WENY), the managing team behind the legendary Grady Tate.

The CD was reviewed and accepted by WENY and passed on to Founder and CEO of PER-VOC, Inc., Grady Tate. Grady thought I had potential and am a unique vocal talent and immediately signed me to his production company (PER-VOC, Inc.) as a new artist in development. I love making great music. I like to think that my work ethic is influenced by great talents like Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, the late Barry White, and the late great Luther Vandross.

Some of the feedback that I’ve gotten has been really special. At the risk of embarrassment, here’s some of it:

“It is said that his incredible vocal range and the warm baritone voice cradles each lyric like rose gathering dew on a misty morning. “

“ It is expected that this humble and spiritual young man, blessed with a multitude of talents, will surely make his mark in this business of music.”

“With his stimulating and electrifying vocal resonance, he is destined to be a new and positive voice to be enjoyed…and most of all treasured.”

Thank you for stopping by the page to spend a little time with me. Come back often and let me share my musical brew with you.
