The rapper D-Law was born as Damien Lawrence, one hot summer day in Norfolk, VA. His name is derived from a hyphenation of his birth name but self-defined as an acronym for Dangerous Living Accumulates Wealth, based on the idea/philosophy that the larger the risk or higher the stakes the greater the reward. And that’s just what he does with his music; D-Law isn’t afraid to step out side of the box and experiment with his sound.

Damien was intrigued by music at an early age. Listening to the likes of Run-DMC, New Edition, LL Cool J, Michael Jackson and others. By the tender age of 10 rap had consumed him. He would practice rhyming and beat-boxing and recording himself with a “boom box”; his mother by whom he was raised by saw his interest and nurtured it by purchasing a karaoke machine for him as a gift. Throughout his high school years, Damien then known as Don L Perfection along with 3rd Eye Ariginool, and Shorty Dew-Wop formed the underground trio known as the Verbal Assassins. The crew earned a rep through-out high school and the South Hampton Roads region. Battling emcees in cafeterias, hallways, buses and skating rinks. The zenith of the group was a live performance at their high school’s senior assembly, where they performed in front of 100s in a packed auditorium. The trio received a standing ovation. Upon graduation the group disbanded and went there separate ways. Don L went back to honing his skills as a lyricist while networking and promoting himself in the hopes of one day realizing his dream.

Damien like so many other rappers went through several name changes and affiliations, is now known as D-Law. Young Law’s hard work and dedication has afforded him many opportunities. “D” as he is often affectionately called, has recently been the master of ceremony, hosting Culture Shock 2 at Fireside Grill in Fairfax, VA. Prior to that D-Law performed at D.C.’s well known Club Zanzibar at the Waterfront in Southwest. D-Law boast a high energy, entertaining performance that never fails to satisfy fans or listeners that are new to his music.

An accomplished artist with a strong work ethic, D-Law has completed several mixtapes showcasing his versatility and skill. He is now in the process of writing and recording his 6th mixtape entitled “Rich In 30 Days” an introspective look at achieving wealth in todays age of instant gratification. Besides writing his own lyrics and recording/mixing in his own home studio, D also produces sophisticated beats and has a degree in graphic design and has not only designed his own album art but has also conceived graphic material for dozens of other musicians throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

With his flare for fashion and creativity, this Virginia rapper is constantly reinventing himself and expressing who he is with each project. Though he hails from south of the Mason-Dixon his music was inspired by the likes of Rakim, AZ, Redman, Wu Tang Clan, Cam’ron and various other Northeastern rappers from the 90’s. Damien blends his New York inspired lyrics with his Chesapeake Bay region culture into a sound that is distinctly a representation of the area and times that raised him. D-Law aims to bring a fresh perspective and a new voice for the DMV while making D-Law and his crew, G.I.A.G. (Get It All Gang) a household name as well as icons in Hip-Hop.
