.I've been DJing now since 91, started off with the acid electro revolution that was sweeping over the UK at the time. Illeagal raves were all the rage and one of the first tunes that influenced me to take the path of Drum and Bass was Lenny de Ice's "we are E". It was then I fell in love with the Amen break and still hold it on high above all other breaks. 92 saw much more progression into hardcore rave and classic tracks like "head in the clouds" by Manix and Dance Conspiracy's "Dub War" reinforced the purpose to stay faithfull. Many other genre's were to splinter from this music but nothing prepared the masses for what happened next. JUNGLE WAS BORN!!!!! This was so underground you never heard any mainstream radio stations playing this and I used to relish every time I went to London, just to hear the variety of pirate stations bustin out phat tune's. My DJing took off then and I still play jungle tune's today. At that time "Drum and Bass" was just an expression used by MC's but it was evident when Alex Reece produced "Pulp Fiction" the music was evolving again. I stuck to my roots and didn't compromise when playing out, still kept to uplifting music. Drum and Bass was getting a bad reputation for being "too dark" and I struggled to get clubs to promote any event as many saw the opportunity to create violence at such venues which was a far cry from the Fantazia days I used to love. Sooner rather than later, artist like LTJ, Blame, Total Science, EZ-Rollers and Peshay created a new 'jazz funk' fusion to there music which was such a breath of fresh air to the scene as it needed such a shake up. This was when I wanted to give something back to the music and started producing. Still moving forward artist like Calibre and High Contrast were producing a new genre within a genre called 'Liquid Funk' which fused these elements combined with uplifting and mellow samples that made Drum and Bass a pleasure to listen to again. My production still reflects all the favourite tunes that I have come to love over the years and also paves the way for other artists to join. What ever you want to call it so you can catalogue the music, it is here to stay and will always be underground and will never die! _________________________DJ ZEBEDEE 2008
