Producer, songwriter, DJ, instrumentalist and booking head of Swedens biggest jazz venue (FASCHING). Magnus Palmquist, aka SWINGKID, started his musical career winning a scholarship for playing the classical guitar at the age of 12. Shortly thereafter he converted to the jazz guitar and everything changed as he discovered the world of rhythmic, soulful, black music ranging from contemporary hip hop to classic disco, soul and funk.
When he met his partner in rhythm, Patrick L, a project formed and they started one of Swedens finest clubmusic-acts, POLYPHONICS. The first single “Nightlights” was released on ATFC’s respected label “ONEPHATDEEVA”, spring 2005, and gained alot of buzz with a slammin remix by Seamus Haji. The song made it to one of the HEAD KANDI compilations and could be heard on the housefloors all over Europe that year. Shortly after, the single “Changing Times” came out, on the legendary soulfulhouse-label “SOLEMUSIC”, and reached #1 at DJ MAGS HYPE CHART and was a featured song on the SOUTHPORT WEEKENDER compilation. A couple of singles later POLYPHONICS just recently
(mar 09) released their full-lenght album “ESCAPADES” on IRMA RECORDS JAPAN. Soon to be released in the rest of cosmos!
Since SWINGKID has been working as a booking agent in Stockholm for many years, he has come to cross paths with almost everyone on the Scandinavian scene. When also a producer, the goldmine of artists that’s been flashing by, has been the perfect source of talent to feature his own production work. The last five years he has been working with a vision of completing an album with the most talented people around him in Stockholm. And that vision eventually has become the piece of bangin art entitled ”THIS ELECTRIC LIFE”. There’s no genre to correctly describe it since it fuses many elements from different parts of the world but inspiration can be traced in the gritty, raw, twisted beats of Detroit to the new era of jazzy soul sounds from Berlin, all the way back to the ancestors
of the Brazilian bossa and the Nigerian afrofunk. The simple recipe is outstanding melodies, superior quality in crispy sounds and swingin’ unique rhythms that provokes movement of feet.
