Let The Sunshine In- Let The Sunlight Shine

DJ Sunshine is one of Norways most versitile DJs, and she rocks the dance-floors with her eclectic style. Sometimes she is funky playing soul, jazz, afro, brazilian and latin, othertimes shell serve up delicious disco, italo, boogie and house or get cosmic playing psyhedelic grooves, kraut and rock. She loves showing herself as a rugged basslover smashing up dancefloor with dnb, rave, dubstep, dub, electro, bmore, bailefunk and afrotechno. She even plays strictly ambient/soundscape sets as her monikor Child Of Klang! Whatever she spins, you can be shure the dancefloors will explode with rhythms, mystique, love and happiness… Endorphines will flow.

Its her fathers fault really. He used to play her and her sister records as lullabies. So Roberta Flack, Sade, Randy Crawford, Sting, Verdi and loads of revolutionary hymns got her hooked to music for life. As a teenager Sunshine collected punk and hip hop, and was blown away by the blossoming hip hop culture with fun, peaceful and political messages. Later on, she discovered rave on a holiday in Spain in 1991 and got obsessed with it and its later cousin and jungle. The tone was set and she went on a mission to London to get her thirst satisfied.

After a year in the bustling international city of London in 1995, she briefly went back to Norway and started playing out. She became a pioneer on the Norwegian drumnbass scene with her “Babys Got Wax” show on radio Nova (recorded and sent back to Oslo from London between 1997 and 2000) and with her residency at the legendary Reinforcement nights from 1997-2000, who she was running together with Little Simon D, Harold Lloyd & Snau. In 1997 Sunshine went back to London to spend another four years there studying animation, sound and music production, and played at clubs such as the legendary Blue Note (EON night) and had a slot on pirate Rude Fm, as well as a show on one of the pioneers of internet broadcasting, Interface FM.

Moving back to Oslo in 2001, Sunshine went on to host her own DJ show on Norways national radio NRK P3, for three years (2002-2005) and kept on playing at, and running her nights at the amazing club Blå, in Oslo. For close to seven years Sunshine has had her residency Frie Former and later on Sunshine Sound System at Blå, inviting along guests such as Gilles Peterson, Seiji, Domu, DJ Cosmo, Jeannie Hopper, DJ Mad Mats, Nikki Lucas, Benji B, Future World Funk DJs, Excalibah, Blacktronica, Patrick Forge, Paul Murphy, Swell Session and many more as well as great Norwegian DJs such as Prins Thomas, Lindstrøm,Todd Terje, Strangefruit, G-HA, DJ Malin, Gymbag as well as many other exciting artists and liveacts. She has also performed alongside MCs such as Warrior Queen, MC Cleveland Watkiss, MC ChickABoo and MC Marshmello.

Sunshine DJs extensively around Oslo and Norway and have played in cities such as New York City, Chicago, Mexico City, Nosara-Costa Rica, Torshavn, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Malmø, Copenhagen, Helsinki, London, Brighton, Nottingham and Birmingham, in addition to both playing at and arranging parties at the Quart music festival in Kristiandsand Norway, The Øya Festival in Oslo-Norway, The Fix in Bergen, The +47 festival in Oslo, Insomnia Festival in Tromsø, The Kongsberg Jazz Festival, Molde Jazz Festival, The Bergen Fest in Bergen, Oslo World Music Festival, Solfestuka at Svalbard and at the Klubbmusikkuka in Bodø amongst many others. She is also co-arranging and booking the Ladyfest festival and concertseries in Norway (ladyfest.no) and she is apart of the nomadic promoters Konsertforeninga, the original booking and musiccommunity at club Blå in Oslo.

Since June 2009 DJ Sunshine moved to an island named Kjerringøy on the northern Coast of Norway to focus on musicmaking, soundscape composition and sound-installation/community/environmental art projects, as the artist Child Of Klang. She is due out with an EP on Plastic Strip records in 2010 as well as various sound-art related commissions and self-initiated projects.

Music is the key.

Sunshine is deeply inspired by original, inquisitive and openminded DJs such as David Mancuso and his DJ philosophy as well as creators of dub music such as King Tubby and Sly and Robbie. People, Atmosphere, sound and space in unity! She is also inspired by Pauline Oliveros “Deep Listening” method.
