DJ Subflo is one of LAs first American DJs to break through in the only true form of British music- drum & bass. At the young age of 17, Subflo began his musical journey as an MC in a rap group called Color Blind Soul. Frequenting illegal acid house parties in LA, Subflo was inspired to produce house and break beats. Moving from hip-hop to house, under the name DJ Beelijah, Subflo began opening up for Doc Martin at the after-hours club Flammable Liquid, and traveled to St. Louis, Chicago, Miami, Salt Lake City, Arizona, Las Vegas, Mexico, San Francisco, Ohio and the San Diego area. After taking off a year from the scene, he decided to start off on a new beat. He changed his name to DJ Subflo and began spinning drum & bass in LA. He started a new working relationship with the Junglist Platoon (hosts to the weekly club "Respect"), which put his name on the map in Los Angeles. He once again was playing not only in the States but all over England, the home of drum & bass. As the club scene opened its arms to Subflo, his club dates started to flourish. He was now opening up and co-headlining with DJs who were his mentors. Gigs have included slots with Bryan Gee, Jumping Jack frost, DJ Rap, Goldie, Kenny Ken, DJ SS, Shy FX, Dom and Roland, Kemistry and Storm as well as Breakbeat Era, Mickey Finn, Aphrodite, G squad aka Supply and Demand, DJ Die, Roni Size, Twisted Individual, and Swift . MCs have always been a large part of his sets and he played with MC Question Mark, MC Fearless, Navigator, Tenor fly, IC3, Tali, Warren G (UK), and Dett. With their help, he decided the only way to make a name in the British dominated scene was to release his own tracks. So he started experimenting with beats in the studio which led to his first 12 release, Mix & Blen .12 Thief/Cylinder (Kenny Kens label). He continued with releases Task .7 Outer Planets, Rollin Vol. 3 Everyman Remix, and white label Break Ya Neck/Platenumb. He put out Connected 4 Life on an independent label called Ghetto Life which was started with partner APX 1. Subflo continued to play all over the world. He revisited St. Louis, San Diego, Las Vegas and Chicago, frequented Miami, and was invited to spin in San Francisco. He crossed the border to Vancouver and Toronto. He had a total of 17 plus shows in London including 3 nights at one of the largest weekly D&B parties, Movement. Subflo has spread his playing arena to the net on shows produced by Spike Radio, Groovetech.com, Vibeflow.com and Groove Radio. Subflo had not forgotten his hip-hop roots and put out No for AMG, as well as being one of the producers on his Greatest Humps lp. He made his first entrance into the Top 40 world and worked for Snoop Dogg and 213. Other artists of various genres are Triniti, Forest For The Trees, EYC, and Chill of Comptons Most Wamted (CMW). Subflo now has a broad range of music that he can play and produce. Starting in hip-hop, moving to house, finding a home in drum & bass and reacquainting himself with hip-hop - Subflo will continue to produce drum & bass as well, hip-hop, while continuing to spin his tunes for the clubs and the street.
