“DJ Prince Ice”
What’s cooler than cool…Ice Cold! Cool as Ice and twice as nice! Hip hop don’t stop at 6’1 rocking the B-boy stance its none other than the man next to the man, SC’s very own cool breeze…DJ Prince Ice! Hailing from Columbia, SC by way of Paterson, New Jersey, the young ice cold kid began mixing and scratching at the tender age of 5. The child prodigy mix master first touched wax when he began spinning old school jams for his peeps. Not only was Ice crazy on the turntables, but his ambidextrous talents extended to the piano, beat boxing, pop locking and break dancin’ “to the boogedy beat” at age 10. Inspired by Krush Groove, Breakin’1 & 2, radio legends Frankie Crocker, Marley Marl, Red Alert & William “Dr. Love Joy” Pee, and his ever loving mother, a Pam Grier look alike, these icons encouraged him to pursue a career in music. From the classroom to the streets, Prince Ice entered several talent shows battling to sounds of Planet Rock by the Soul Sonic Force. Twisting metaphorically, spinning effortlessly, and perfectly percolating Ice managed to build a rapport on the block which open doors to his emergence on the turntables at every block party around the way.
Knowing it was his mission to make heads bob to the sounds of his 808, Ice began building his empire as an adolescent. His first real DJ job was in the Dirty South. At only 15 Ice locked down a teen club in Stone Mountain, GA with a raggedy mixer and a set of turntables, which was quickly upgraded before he became a major player in the Atlanta Star Record Pool. Dodging the ills of the streets and groupies in the DJ booth, Prince Ice managed to build his craft evolving into a terror on the tables.
After migrating to Columbia, South Cackalac, Prince Ice brought a chill to the steamy halls of Spring Valley High. After rocking the crowd from the Viking Nest to the home of the Shamrocks, Prince Ice bypassed the bourgeois life to the hard knock reality synonymous with his alma mater, Eau Claire High. If Eau Claire was “clear water” Prince Ice put it on freeze making every school dance Ice Cold! After leaving his name on the game Ice moved back to A-Town to attend Columbia School of Broadcasting. Not knowing whether A-town was ready to be on freeze, Ice put yet another notch in his diamond encrusted belt and moved to knock the block off the airwaves back to his new home town of Columbia, where he got his first radio job at WKWQ in Batesburg, SC. At Hot 95, Prince Ice was the Music Director and host of the Love Zone where ladies from all throughout the state sent perfume love letters and pictures to the young 19-year-old DJ. After 2 years of producing 75% of Hot 95’s commercials, mixshows, and various programs, Prince Ice was called to bigger and better things when he was spotted by (101.3 WWDM) the Big DM’s Doug Williams, “the Quarterback of Radio”, while moving the crowd in the Metro’s Club New York. Sliding on ice to the most popular station in the Met, an ecstatic Prince Ice emerged to the kingdom to sit on his throne at a new opportunity to bring Ice Cold Radio to the forefront. At the People’s Station, Prince Ice programmed the Quiet Storm and produced a segment, which he coined Letters of Love, as well as, a party on the radio “where you would not be smoked out, choked out, or running for safety” called Club 101. Due to his hard work, blood, sweat, and tears Ice Cold Radio became the only official full time prime time hip hop show on SC radio to rank #1 in all demographics! Yes, everyone from 8 to 80 was keeping it ICE COLD BABY! After 14 years of holding down the fort, Ice transcended into the hip-hop arena same style, new station. On the very first night of his exclusive appearance at Hot 103.9 (WHXT) he was floored with fans calling in to congratulate his switch to the Hot Squad. As a member of the Hot Squad, he still continues to keep it Ice Cold! Prince Ice has garnered the respected title of the "Living Legend" for years of continuously being rated the #1 mixer on BOTH stations and in the state! Now, the top rated mixer expands his legacy to other markets and the worldwide web!
