DJ Peril

There are hip hop artists and then there is the incomparable DJ Peril. Whether its through his DJing and acclaimed production styles for 1200 Techniques, his cutting-edge record label Street Elite or his scene-setting club nights and blazing live performances supporting the best in the biz, youll be hard pressed to find someone in hip hop who hasnt been inspired or influenced by this Aussie identity.
DJ Perils history goes back to 1983. His introduction to the Hip Hop game started as the BBoy and graffiti artist Eraser, who was part of some of Melbournes first underground and elite hip hop crews. In the mid eighties he changed his alias to Peril and joined DMA (one of Melbournes most respected graffiti crews) and gained major recognition for his work in the underground graffiti scene. He took on DJing and MCing as well as producing for various funk, dub and reggae bands. As the Peril name spread, opportunities surfaced, one of which was airtime on Melbournes Kiss FM hosting the famed urban show The Joint throughout the 90s
In 1997 Peril began collaborating with his brother Kemstar and MC Nfamas on the hip hop project 1200 Techniques. Led by Perils impressive production prowess and turntablism skills, the group went on to become the Australias first hip hop group to cross over into the mainstream, along the way picking up an ARIA for best independent release and best video clip for their stunning single "Karma" from the album Choose One that sold a staggering 60,000 copies.
Peril hosts a weekly residency at, Soulclap Saturdays where he pushes the freshest cuts of RnB and hip hop to the party people.Along with this he runs his respected imprint Street Elite Records and focuses much of his energy on pushing emerging hip hop acts, in which the 25 year veteran lays down the beats and cuts.
Peril recently also signed Perth based indigenous MC, Knowledge Bones to his Street Elite imprint,watch out for his album coming real soon.
His new album King of the Beats is in fact his debut solo LP. Perils beats are the perfect marriage between radio and club, with the first single "Its about to Blow" tearing up the airwaves and staying in the national airplay charts for 20 weeks.
