Like many DJ’s in the industry, Kay-Z started his career because of his immense passion for music and all things related, including rocking a party. The particular fondness of hip-hop music led Kay-Z to experiment with turntables and mixing, the result was the discovery of a hidden talent that would soon be appreciated by the masses.
From humble beginnings in 1997 playing at various house parties and performing as resident DJ at several “underage” events, DJ Kay-Z fine tuned his techniques and built strong business relationships that would prove useful in his career development. In 2000, DJ Kay-Z hit the Melbourne night club scene and was one of the few DJ’s with extensive music knowledge that played exclusively hip-hop and RnB. His style was extremely well received by the public and he performed several resident DJ positions in various Melbourne night clubs, solidifying his position in the urban scene and building a dedicated fan base.
Kay-z brings a unique style that differs from other DJ’s. His musical versatility and ability to read and manipulate the audience are his main talents, as the man himself once said ““My style is hard to pin-down cuz it’s versatile. I am really a crowd DJ, I like to read the crowd and play what they like, so I sound different from set to set and venue to venue…”
DJ Kay-Z prides himself on choosing just the right tracks to make the crowd throw their hands up and rush the dance floor, while simultaneously educating the listeners by laying down some of the newest tracks out there as well as the timeless classics.
In 2004 Kay-Z decided to partner up with close business associates and start “4Motion Entertainment” a promotions/events company that would soon broaden his career and allowing for the ever increasing demand for his abilities to be managed.
Through constant work and strong contacts made over the years his business flourished, landing him the role of official warm up DJ for the 50Cent/G-Unit Australia & New Zealand Tour. Kay-Z also toured Australia with US hip-hop group “Slum Village” and performed as supporting DJ for several international acts including; Busta Rhymes, Cypress Hill, Lil John, Snoop Dogg, Neyo, Rihanna, Mobb Deep, Memphis Bleek and the Ying Yang twins. He has also performed alongside some of the world’s most successful DJ’s, such as; A-Trak, Green Lantern, Whoo Kid, DJ Jam, DJ Fashen, DJ Muggs, Alchemist, DJ Invisible, Cut Killer (France), Shorty Blitz (U.K), DJ Leust (France),DJ T-Bone (Malaysia), and Bangkok Invaders (Thailand).
In his home city of Melbourne, Kay-Z supports the local scene by featuring young talent on his mix tapes as well as established Australian lyricists and groups. Through his promotions company, Kay-Z has organized many events promoting local talent and the Australian urban music scene. He and has worked closely with many local artist including; Hilltop Hoods, Diafrix, Phrase, 1200 techniques, Ken Hell & Weapon X, Fevapres, Justice & Kaos and Fresh Sox (Bboy Crew )
With more than 10 years of experience in the industry, DJ Kay-Z has established himself as a talented DJ both locally and internationally, with regular performances in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. His international tours consisted of several performances in New Zealand, New Caledonia, France, Germany and Malaysia. In 2005 Kay-Z went on a tour of Southern Africa, performing in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
His abilities have brought him fans from all corners of the globe, and if there is one thing that is certain, it’s that this man knows how to get the party started.
