Divining Rods

The Divining Rods are the band Chris Newman envisioned while serving time in 2005. Passing the lonely hours writing lyrics, and envisioning the music in his mind.He was transfered to a Mens treatment center. From there he contacted old bandmate Mark Nelson, and recruited Louie Samora on drums from a twenty year friendship, being in bands and playing the same clubs. Roach(keys) and Joe Wickstrom on Bass. During work release he worked with the boys on week ends after 6 months and played their first show at Dantes in Portland, October 11, 05. Newman's life was turning around after years of homelessness and drug abuse, he was reunited with an old girlfriend who was now many years in recovery. Their new found love inspired the music Chris was writing. The band lasted as long as their whirlwind long distance relationship.They disbanded in February 2008 after recording two albums: Love Letter to the Dead and Key of H. Newman's latest effort is called BOO FROG, featuring Chris' new partner, Erika Meyer, and features her on Vocals and Guitar as well as songwriting duties.
