James Gray, born and raised in Brooklyn New York, home of some of the biggest icons in the history of hip hop, Jay Z and Notorious BIG. James Gray has had the soul of music in his blood since before he could remember. Determined and destined to break the cliché of the typical New York rapper, he has the heart of a true musician. While in New York, James has made appearances at Hot 97 interviewed by DJ K-Slay on his well known "Drama Hour" where he first showcased his lyrical talent over the airwaves. While still grinding in New York, James has performed at many clubs all over NYC from China Club to the infamous Hammerstein Ballroom, sharing the stage with such established artists as TI, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, David Banner, Rev Run, Papoose, Ryan Leslie, and many more.
Not only is James Gray a performing artist, he is an experienced songwriter and has written for famous rap group Onyx, Pop/R&B sensations 3LW, and Warner brothers newest artist Tony Hustle. James has ghost-written many songs for up and coming artists both signed and unsigned. Business ventures led him to California where he began building his buzz on the west coast. Sparring in a friendly battle with famous rap star, The Game at Nelly's Air force One party in Los Angeles, many people noticed his lyrical prowess. While in California, he also performed in the jungles for 100.3 The Beat during its community outreach event hosted by NBA Veteran John Salley. Also performing in Hollywood's hot spots including, White Lotus and the Garden Of Eden.
James definitely didn't stop there, soon after building a growing buzz in Cali he took a trip to Miami where he met and collaborated with one of the hottest DJ's in the game, DJ Khaled. After hosting Jame's mix tape, he also featured on a number of songs with him including the mix tape street anthem "Whats Hood." Now continuing to pursue his music career, James Gray is currently in the studio songwriting, co producing, and arranging music for other artist as well as himself. With a style that varies, and a distinguished delivery of his own with enough lyrical content to last a lifetime and the ability to write almost any genre of music, James Gray is definitely one of those rare breeds of true artists that are seldom seen in the hip hop scene today.
